The former Police Ombudsman of Northern Ireland, Nuala O’Loan, has said that proposed hate-speech legislation “has the capacity to do immense damage to free speech and democracy in Ireland”.

Only 4 out of 160 TDs were present to hear arguments to amend the Hate Speech Bill before voting.

Its safe to say the Dáil was asleep at the wheel and its now on the Seanad to rectify this legislation.
