๐Satellite Broadcasting
Satellite Broadcasting is the distribution of multimedia
content or broadcast signals over or through a satellite network
๐Steps
The broadcast signal usually originate from a station such as tbv or radio station
๐Transmitted through uplink (uploaded) to a geo synchronous satellite
๐The satellite redistribution or retransmission (via free space) to other predetermined
geographic locations through an open or a secure channel
๐Downlinks are then received by base stations,(such as small home satellite dishes) i.e
Parabolic antenna) or base stations owned by local cable network for redistribution to their customers
๐The signals coming in are encoded and digitally compressed so as to minimize the size and so that the provider can bundle more channels
into the signal-Multiplexing
๐Multiple access
Multiple access means access to a given facility or a resource by multiple users
here the facility is the transponder,
multiple users are various terrestrial terminals
under the footprint of the satellite
๐Multiple access enables satellite to take or give signals from different stations
at time without any interference between them
๐กThere are 3 types of multiple access technique
๐FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access)
๐TDMA(Time Division Multiple Access)
๐CDMA(Code division Mutiple Access)
๐FDMA(Frequency Division Multiple Access)
๐FDMA is the process of dividing one channel or bandwidth into multiple individual bands each for use
by a single user.
๐Problem:
๐Adjacent channel interference, Cross talk , Intermodulation(IMP)
๐To avoid we use guard band
A guard band is a narrow frequency band between adjacent frequency channels
๐TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access)
๐TDMA is a time based access in which we give certain time frame to each
channel.Within that time frame the channel can access the entire spectrum
bandwidth
๐Each station got a fixed length or slot.The slots, which are unused will remain
in idle stage.
๐If a channel is transmitting heavier loads, then it can be assigned a bigger time
slot than the channel which is transmitting lighter loads
๐Shares single carrier frequency with multiple users
๐Slots can be assigned on demand in dynamic TDMA
๐Higher synchronization between earth station & satellite
๐Frequency / slot allocation complexity
๐TDMA is more suitable for digital data transmission

๐In CDMA a technique , a unique code has been assigned to each channel
to distinguish from each other.
๐A user has access to the whole bandwidth for the entire duration
