🥩🍖 ☠️ 🇺🇦⚔️ 🇷🇺"River of Death" The Washington Post writes about the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces while holding a bridgehead in Krynki, Kherson region.
“They threw it like a piece of meat to the wolves,” Ukrainian marine Dmitry describes his mission. "We're taking a lot of casualties. We're just losing people and there's no result," another Marine said.
Infantrymen spoke of wounded soldiers drowning, unable to swim due to their injuries, or being dragged to the bottom of the river by their heavy backpacks, the newspaper writes.
“The crossing was so dangerous that the bodies of several Marines who died during the first wave that crossed the river two months ago remained here,” WP writes, according to the Marines. Also, according to them, many of those who control the boats that the Russians are targeting are dying.
Of the group of 45 people who were thrown onto the eastern bank, five died and another 20 were injured, Dmitry said.
The publication writes that Ukraine did not liberate a single settlement during the operation in Krynki.
“With the counteroffensive stalled, Ukrainian military and political leaders were eager to demonstrate to their Western backers some progress—any progress,” the publication explained the rationale for holding a bridgehead.

The war in Ukraine continues to grind on and Ukrainian troops are falling back all across the 600 mile front. Not a good start to the New Year for Zelensky and the future is bleak at best. Russia is methodically destroying Ukrainian factories set up to manufacture military tactical clothing, ammunition, drones and vehicles. Repair facilities also have been hit and obliterated. Ditto for military training facilities aka bases. Ukraine’s recent use of cluster munitions on Belgorod and Donetsk killed a few civilians but enraged Putin and his military commanders. In response Russia has unleashed a devastating series of missile, drone and rocket attacks across the breadth of Ukraine and vowed to keep doing so. So much for Western hopes of building manufacturing plants in Ukraine to keep it in the war.

I invite you to read the above article. It's not Putin, but a completely different approach on warfare,
"Russian military thought is traditionally linked to a holistic approach to warfare, which involves the integration of a large number of factors in the development of a strategy. This approach is materialized by the concept of “correlation of forces” (Соотношение сил)."

The Russians pay half the amount for a 152mm shell compared to what the Germans pay for a 30mm ammo.
A while back, I wrote a post about Rheinmetall selling their Caracal 4x4 to the German government for over $600,000. Recently, I've been looking into the variations in ammunition costs among Western companies.
Rheinmetall is asking for over $600 for a Gepaed 35mm round, which is the same price the Russians are paying for a 152mm artillery round. But it doesn't stop there. Rheinmetall also sold 600,000 30mm rounds to be used in the PUMA IFV for $1,000 each.
In all three of these overpriced sales, the client was the German government. To put it in perspective, the US ordered and paid $108 for each round back in 2017. Obviously, costs vary depending on the type of ammo, but $1,000 for a single 30mm round? This puts a burden on the German taxpayers.
There's a concern that Europe wouldn't be able to sustain a war with these prices. They could bankrupt any country before troops are even prepared for combat. The focus here is not on the quality, but rather the sustainable cost during a real war.
A single medium Cal cannon can fire 5,000 rounds in less than one minute. How can pay that bill?

🇩🇪🇺🇦🚀 🇷🇺In Germany, pressure is growing on Chancellor Scholz regarding the transfer of long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Kiev, the Rheinische Post reported.
Representatives of three parties - the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU), as well as the Greens and the Free Democratic Party (FDP), members of the government coalition - stated the need for such supplies and accused Scholz of excessive restraint.
It is noted that some politicians advocated striking targets on Russian territory.
The range of the Taurus is up to 500 km. Until this moment, Berlin had not supplied Kiev with such weapons on principle.
