FIRST ALLIED VICTORY: 85 years since the Battle of Narvik 🪖
Today marks 85 years since the victory over Hitler’s forces in Narvik during World War II.
Together with Allied troops from Britain, France and Poland, Norwegian forces pushed back – a military and moral victory that resonated throughout the Western world.
Nearly 10,000 Norwegian and 25,000 Allied soldiers took part in the fighting in Narvik.
The Battle of Narvik was commemorated today in the iron ore town, with Defence Minister Tore O. Sandvik, representatives from the Allied countries, and Germany present.
‘The Battle of Narvik taught us that freedom must be defended – together. That lesson still holds true,’ said Minister of Defence @toreosa.
The Minister also brought a gift to Narvik, presented by French Defence Minister @SebLecornu during his visit to Norway in January.
The special gift was a historic helmet from a French Foreign Legion soldier who fought in the Battle of Narvik, which was handed over today to the Narvik War Museum.

Uroczystości rocznicowe odbyły się na cmentarzu wojennym w Narwiku, gdzie spoczywają m.in. marynarze ORP „Grom”.
✔️ Bitwa o Narwik była pierwszym zwycięstwem aliantów w II wojnie światowej. Przyczynili się do niego żołnierze polscy 🇵🇱, francuscy 🇫🇷, brytyjscy 🇬🇧 i norwescy 🇳🇴. Spory wkład w zwycięstwo wnieśli polscy żołnierze Samodzielnej Brygady Strzelców Podhalańskich. @Kombatanci #Pamiętamy

Forrige uke var alle de tre forsvarssjefene fra Norge, Danmark og Finland, samt den svenske forsvarsstabssjefen, samlet til debatt under Kirkeneskonferansen.
- Det at vi nordiske landene kunne være sammen på scenen og snakke om det viktige samarbeidet vi er i gang med, gjør at vi sammen bidrar til å skape en følelse av trygghet i en urolig tid. Den tryggheten er ikke bare en følelse, den er også reell, fordi svensk og finsk NATO-medlemskap har gjort norsk sikkerhet enda bedre, sier Forsvarssjef Eirik Kristoffersen.
Under samtalen var de fire forsvarstoppene innom viktigheten av integrasjon i alle domener: land, luft, maritimt, cyber og space.
- Det var også viktig for oss å komme inn på totalforsvaret og de utfordringene vi fortsatt har, for eksempel med å sikre full militær mobilitet på tvers av landegrensene. I tillegg må vi ha gode løsninger på logistikk der vi har materiell som enkelte ganger er helt likt, der vi kjøper akkurat det samme for å øke...
