28. april returnerte AWACS til Ørland flystasjon for første gang etter renovering av rullebanen. Fremover vil disse flyene i perioder benytte Ørland som en fremskutt lokasjon for øvelser i området.
AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) er lett gjenkjennelige med sin radarantenne på toppen av flykroppen. Flyet opererer som en kommando og kontrollenhet i lufta, har unike egenskaper og kan oppdage både sjø, land og luftbevegelser langt unna. Sammen med andre informasjonskilder danner de et helhetlig luftbilde for beslutningstakere.
AWACS består av multinasjonale besetninger fra rundt 15 land, deriblant Norge. De 14 AWACS-flyene har sin hovedbase i Geilenkirchen i Tyskland og med fremskutte lokasjoner i Tyrkia, Hellas og Italia i tillegg til Norge.

State Secretary Marte Gerhardsen of the Norwegian Ministry of Defence welcomed the Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Defence, Mr Kazuhiro Kobayashi and his distinguished delegation in Oslo yesterday.
´We discussed perspectives on the security developments in Europe and the Indo-Pacific, and our shared commitment to continue to support Ukraine. All of Norway’s F-35s delivered: – The acquisition is a success story ✈️🇺🇸
🇳🇴 Norway is the first country to receive all its planned F-35 fighter jets.
‘This is a success story. The fighter jets were delivered on schedule, and the F-35 is performing beyond expectations’, said Minister of Defence @toreosa during a ceremony this week marking the delivery of all 52 aircraft to the Royal Norwegian Air Force.
‘The aircraft ensure that we can safeguard Norwegian sovereignty and maintain even better control over our areas on land, at sea and in the air’, the Minister added.
