India Conducts Fifth Cycle Leopard Population Estimation. Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav released the report on Status of Leopards in India, on 29th February, 2024 at New Delhi.
Madhya Pradesh has the highest leopard population with 3,907 individuals followed by Maharashtra (1,985) and Karnataka (1,879).

The Union Cabinet approved the establishment of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) on February 29, 2024. The alliance's headquarters will be in India and it will receive a one-time budgetary support of Rs 150 crore for five years from 2023-24 to 2027-28. The IBCA will bring together 96 big cat range countries to collaborate on conservation efforts.
