π In a significant move towards environmental conservation, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated the βVan Mitraβ scheme and its accompanying portal. This innovative initiative is designed to foster community engagement in afforestation efforts, specifically targeting non-forest areas across the state. The scheme aims to empower local communities to play an active role in expanding the stateβs green cover, thereby enhancing the survival rate of newly planted trees and promoting the planting of trees outside traditional forest zones.

India Conducts Fifth Cycle Leopard Population Estimation. Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav released the report on Status of Leopards in India, on 29th February, 2024 at New Delhi.

The Union Cabinet approved the establishment of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) on February 29, 2024. The alliance's headquarters will be in India and it will receive a one-time budgetary support of Rs 150 crore for five years from 2023-24 to 2027-28. The IBCA will bring together 96 big cat range countries to collaborate on conservation efforts.
