All British nuclear submarines have been temporarily decommissioned and are undergoing maintenance, The Telegraph reports, citing sources.
The entire available fleet of British nuclear attack submarines is effectively stuck in ports, which, according to estimates, makes the UK vulnerable to Vladimir Putin's submarine fleet.
All five British Astute-class submarines are awaiting maintenance and repairs. The sixth, recently commissioned, is not yet ready for deployment.
Naval commanders say that such a situation creates the impression of "helplessness" of the UK in the eyes of Russia, which has increased the activity of its naval forces in British waters by a third over the past year.
A former nuclear submarine captain, Commander Ryan Ramsey, called the lack of attack submarines ready to go to sea a "serious alarm signal" for the country, the author notes.
Calling on Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and "major industry representatives" to urgently intervene, he told The Telegraph:
"We look helpless. The Russians know we can't put submarines to sea. It all doesn't make sense to me. You lose credibility in the eyes of Russia if you can't maintain maritime deterrence. This problem has been hidden for decades. Everyone knew it was coming, but they just kept putting it off."
The Ministry of Defence said that it usually does not comment on the state of the UK's submarine fleet, but stressed that its waters "are always protected by various means".

🟥Pressure on public servants to participate in the events of the ruling party raised questions about equal conditions for election participants;
🟥Numerous arrests and criminal cases against opposition representatives contributed to the perception of selective justice;
🟥Observers noted the spread of disinformation, fake and AI-generated content, as well as the use of anonymous accounts to discredit opponents;
🟥Public television, according to the OSCE, showed clear bias in favor of the ruling party, while a number of private media outlets supported individual opposition candidates;
