One of our #Trusted_Partners, Magdalena Szumna, is launching the first beta edition of her Unwritten Rules Lab on 8 September.

It’s a small 90-minute session for professionals dealing with the kind of workplace situations that are hard to explain but difficult to ignore. Power dynamics, double standards, unclear expectations, or simply that feeling that something happened in the room that nobody is naming.

πŸ“Œ The group is limited to 6 people.
πŸ“Œ 8 September | 13:00–14:30 | €99

If it sounds relevant, you can contact Magdalena directly on LinkedIn or at magdalena@indogodiversity.com to secure a spot.

Where you work matters.
But so does where your life happens.

New WEF analysis based on BCG’s Cities of Choice research found a 30-point gap in job satisfaction between workers in high- and low-experience cities.

And even in IT, one of the most remote-friendly sectors, the gap was still 20 percentage points.

The takeaway is simple:
A good job may get people there.
A good life may help them stay.

The talent is here. The transition is where things get lost.

New Nuffic figures show a useful pattern: international students face more friction in the first year, but those who continue often complete at strong rates. And after graduation, wanting to stay is still very different from being able to build a life here.

This week’s #Weekly_Signal looks at three transition points: settling in, getting through your studies, and what happens after graduation.

Swipe through the main numbers and the question we think matters most:

What could become the bottleneck in your #transition?

Starting over in a new country takes a lot of energy: Paperwork, language, uncertainty, new routines, new people.

Some days feel exciting. Some feel exhausting. Often both. That part counts too.

A Step Towards Freedom

In this episode of Bennu, Ben Brink and Charline Baker-Friesen speak with Shivangi Dhakad about what moving countries really changes.

Not just where you live, but how you think about freedom, work, identity, home and belonging.
Shivangi shares her move from India to the Netherlands, what she found here, what she still misses, and how her idea of home has changed over the years.

The conversation also touches on the pressure to fit in, slowing down, building community, and staying yourself while adapting to a new culture.

One idea sits at the heart of the episode:
You can respect the culture you move into without losing your own.

Moving to a new country comes with a ridiculous number of things to sort out.

Residence permits. Housing. Work. Dutch. Meeting people. Learning how everything works.

It’s easy to feel behind because you’re not dealing with all of it at once. But you don’t need to.

Focus on what matters now. Let the rest wait. That counts as progress too.

If your housing comes with your job in the #Netherlands, check these three things:

1. Your rental contract
2. What is being taken from your payslip
3. What happens to your housing if the job ends

It is easier to check this now than when something goes wrong.

This week’s Weekly Signal explains what to look for and where to get help if something does not seem right.

β€œI belong everywhere and nowhere at the same time.”

In this episode of Bennu, Ingrid Tappin talks with Ben Brink and Alex Baker-Friesen about identity, belonging, and what happens when you build a life across different cultures and contexts.

The conversation moves through Ingrid’s own journey, from media and entrepreneurship to Diverse Leaders in Tech, and into a bigger question: how much of who we are do we adapt, explain, or hold on to when we enter new spaces?

They also talk about starting again in the Netherlands, finding your place, and why belonging is never something you build entirely on your own.

Major transitions can affect more than just the practical side of life.

When a lot is changing, small things can help you feel more grounded. A familiar routine. Going for a walk. Calling someone you trust. Getting enough rest. Giving yourself some space.

For this post, Nelleke Verbunt from The Butterfly Phase shared her thoughts on finding those small anchors during periods of change.

A simple reminder: you may not be able to control everything around you, but you can still create some stability within your day.

Thanks Nelleke for sharing your perspective.

24% of HBO and university graduates in the Netherlands spent part of their studies abroad in 2024/25.

What stood out to us was what students said they gained from it: more independence, better cultural awareness, stronger knowledge in their field, language skills, and different perspectives.

A useful reminder that international experience is not just about being somewhere else. It can change how you learn, work and see things.

Getting a BSN is one of the first things to sort out when you move to the Netherlands.

Which route you use depends on your situation: BRP if you live here, or RNI if you are registering as a non-resident.

The guide explains what to do, what to bring and where to start.
