“Gravity” is the name of the phenomenon. Newton’s law of universal gravitation and Einstein’s general relativity attempt to explain the phenomenon. Newton’s law of universal gravitation describes gravity as a force, while Einstein’s general relativity describes it as a result of space-time curvature.

Newton’s law of universal gravitation is more straightforward and gives sufficiently accurate results for most everyday usage. General relativity is far more accurate but also much more complicated. General relativity can explain phenomena that cannot be explained using Newton’s law and addresses other phenomena not related to gravity.

There are very few cases involving gravity in our everyday lives on Earth that Newton’s law of universal gravitation gives an inaccurate result. It is why Newton’s law of gravity is still used in most situations in our lives.

Flat-Earth is a frequent object of ridicule in popular media. But, predictably, flat-Earthers claim that these references about flat Earth are examples of predictive programming.

Similar things exist in conspiracy theories. The fact that Freemason exists does not prove they are controlling our lives. The fact that weather modifications exist does not prove that condensation trails left by airplanes are an effort to modify weather. Wernher von Braun worked for Nazi Germany does not prove he worked on behalf of the Nazis at NASA.

The website Beyond Horizons discusses the world records of the farthest peak to peak observation. When this post is published, the current record is 443 km, from the peak of Finestrelles in Spain, observing Pic Gaspard in France. Beyond Horizons is aware that Earth’s curvature and atmospheric refraction affect the observation outcome, and they have entire pages to explain the fact.

These world records of the farthest observation are consistent with the expectation of what will happen if Earth is a sphere and cannot be regarded as “proof” of flat Earth. On the other hand, these observations are impossible if the observers did not do it from a mountain peak, and this fact shows that Earth is a sphere.

However, it fails to explain all the other observations.

Flat-Earthers need to forego many of the knowledge gained from years of education and experience. In this case, they need to forget the knowledge of how the world works they gained from their childhood years. All the knowledge they gained from playing hide and seek? They need to forget all of it.

The position of Polaris today is conveniently very close to the north celestial pole. And therefore, the altitude or the angle between horizon and Polaris can be used to determine the approximate observer’s latitude.

South of the equator, Polaris is not visible and obviously cannot be used for navigation. Polaris is below the horizon and obstructed by the Earth. It is necessary to locate the south celestial pole in the sky to determine the observer’s latitude. It is more difficult as there is no bright star nearby, unlike Polaris in the north.

Polaris itself is not always the north star. Due to the Earth’s axial precession, the position of the north celestial pole will shift. Twenty centuries ago, the north celestial pole was closer to Kochab than Polaris.

All the observed facts are only possible if the Earth is a sphere, and impossible to happen if the Earth were flat.

Just posting this here so everyone can see that David Joyce from Facebook is sending me threats of false imprisonment and assault. He says he is going to track me down and physically pin me to the ground under "citizen arrest" because call flat earthers stupid. Despite the fact that...you know...there is no such thing as a citizens arrest in Scotland and touching me would be assault. He says he is serious, so I've already reported it to the police and will be pressing charges under section 38"Threatening & Abusive Behaviour"- Section 38, Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010.
This is the guy who was dumb enough to give me his phone number, that is registered to his home address at the same time as making threats against me.

Our eyes cannot resolve an object with an angular size of less than one arcminute. We might be able to reveal the object by using an optical aid like a telescope or binocular or by zooming in with a camera.

Our atmosphere attenuates and scatters light. Beyond a certain distance, light from the object will be too weak to be discerned; or too scattered & do not form an image. We might be able to improve the visibility by using selective yellow headlights, a thermal camera, or an infrared camera.

If the object is obstructed by another object, it will not be visible, including if it is obstructed by Earth’s curvature. We might be able to reveal it by increasing the height of the observer.

Just watched a debate between FTFE and Mitchell from Australia, there are a handful of flat earthers that deliberately avoid participating in debates as they're aware of the fact they would be easily exposed.

Mitchell alongside Dubay and others is now categorised as one the few that know that they can't possibly withstand a reasonable debate without being made out as a completely and utter moronic dribbler.

So they avoid confrontation directly and choose to keep making as the flerfs say "real truth" videos on YouTube. Anyway I noticed that I couldn't find any debates with Mitchell from Australia after this one so he must still be hurting.

Warning: Mitchell is an insufferable pyramid of fuming human waste.

Zooming on the setting sun will never reveal the sun already obstructed by Earth’s curvature.


When fully zoomed in, the sun appears larger and fills more of the frame. As a result, the frame is dominated by a bright object (the sun). The auto-exposure system will thus compensate by lowering the exposure. The sun will appear in the correct exposure with a clearly defined edge. This is done by sacrificing the appearance of all the other objects, which now appear dark.

On the other hand, the sun appears very small when fully zoomed out and occupies far less of the frame. The picture is dominated by dark objects, like the evening sky and the ocean. The autoexposure system now thinks the photographer wants to take a picture of the entire landscape and compensate by raising the exposure. The sky and ocean appear correctly exposed at the expense of the sun, which now looks too bright. Not only that, the glare around the sun will appear too bright as well, and it can be impossible to distinguish the sun from its glare. Flat-Earthers think the glare is part of the sun and incorrectly assume the sun is larger than it is.

To take a good picture of the sun during sunset, it is sometimes necessary to use manual exposure. The autoexposure system can only guess the intention of the photographer. Sometimes it guesses wrong, like when the intended object is far brighter than its surroundings or vice versa.

We hear flat-Earthers often claimed that it is impossible for the Sun to be in space. They said the Sun burns, and therefore it requires oxygen. Space is empty, so it is impossible for the Sun to be there. They are wrong. The reaction that is occurring in the Sun is not combustion. It works differently from what happens with the candle.

Nuclear fusion powers the Sun. It fuses hydrogen atoms into helium atoms. All the necessary component for the reaction to happen is in the Sun, and the reaction doesn’t require matters from external sources.


If the hydrogen atoms exist on Earth, then why a nuclear fusion doesn’t happen on Earth like in the Sun? It requires an enormous amount of hydrogen for the fusion reaction to occur. Because of its vast mass, the core of the Sun gets squeezed from all directions, allowing the nuclear fusion to happen: hydrogen nuclei combine to form helium atoms.

The reaction inside the Sun will happen until all the hydrogen in the core is exhausted, in approximately 5 billion years.

Various photos and videos showing the curvature were taken from close to the surface, from one end of the transmission lines, viewing toward the other end. As such, it is not difficult to see the curvature. It is the same as when we want to determine whether a table is flat. We would place our eyes near the same plane as the table’s surface. It is called “perspective compression, ” an intuitive method to easily determine if an object is curved.

On the other hand, flat Earthers want to avoid exposing themselves to incriminating information, and they do that by choosing a vantage point where they cannot see the curvature. It is similar to looking at the table from above the table, far from the surface plane. If the table is curved, we will not notice it. But it does not mean the table is not curved.

Buoyancy: It has upward direction. It is caused by the hot air inside the balloon having less density than the air surrounding it.

Force of gravity: It has downward direction. It is caused by the gravitational acceleration exerted by the Earth.

If buoyancy is greater than the force of gravity, then the balloon will rise. Conversely, if the force of gravity is greater than its buoyancy, the balloon will descend.

An ice shelf is a thick floating platform of ice. Ice shelves are found not only in Antarctica but also in Greenland, Canada, and Russia in the north polar region.

Flat-Earthers often show off pictures of an ice shelf as ‘proof’ of the existence of the mythical giant ice wall surrounding the Earth. They are wrong.


In the flat-Earth mythology, Antarctica is described as a vast icy land on the edge of the Earth. There is supposedly a giant ice wall in Antarctica, surrounding the entire Earth in a circle. They like to show the pictures of this supposed ‘giant ice wall.’ In reality, those are pictures of an ice shelf.

An ice shelf is a thick floating platform of ice that forms where a glacier or ice sheet flows down to a coastline and onto the ocean surface. An ice shelf is thick. The thickness ranges from 100 to 1000 meters, but only a small part of it is above the sea level.

There’s nothing mysterious about ice shelves. They can be found in both polar regions, including the Arctic in the north.

If the target is 100m away, the Coriolis effect at 60° latitude is less than one millimeter. Therefore, it will not be necessary to account for the tiny deflection.

However, if the target’s distance is one kilometer, it becomes significant. At 60° latitude, the Coriolis effect will deflect more than 8 cm, and the shooter will have to consider it.

Many soldiers do not shoot long-range; therefore, they are not trained to account for the Coriolis effect. It does not mean the effect does not exist, only that it is too small to affect the results of the kind of shootings that they do.

The longest recorded sniper kills occurred at a distance of more than 3500 m using a .50 BMG round. The Coriolis deflection at such a distance will be about a meter horizontally.

Can we see a curved horizon from an airplane at 46,000 ft altitude? Does the horizon raise to eye level? What does the globe model predict and what can we see in reality?

The following image is a screenshot from a video filmed from the cockpit of a Bombardier Global Express 600 flying at an altitude of 46,000 ft. The camera used was an iPhone 7 with a 35 mm equivalent focal length of 29 mm (field of view about 73°).

Note: the curvature of the horizon is not due to lens distortion. You can check this by following the link to the raw uncut video, where the camera was paning up and down to show that the curvature does not change in different parts of the frame.

The green symbols and numbers are data from the Head-up display. It shows essential informations to the pilot when he looks through the front window. The horizontal bar with the 2 circles is part of the Attitude indicator and shows an artificial horizon at eye level. You can move the head around, this line will remain at the same position with respect to the real horizon. The real horizon of the earth appears way below eye level at this altitude and is clearly curved.

The overlayed yellow grid, the long horizontal green line and the information at the right is created with the Curvature App. I entered an observer altitude of 14,020 m = 46,000 ft, and a focal length of 29 mm (iPhone 7) and selected the aspect ratio of 16:9.

The calculated graphics of the Curvature App matches the iPhone image perfectly, both the horizon drop of 3.8° as well as the curvature of the horizon.
