Globe-Earthers’ Excuse to Infer Earth’s Shape from the Sky

Globe advocates like to treat observations of the sky as proof of a spherical Earth. In reality, saying that celestial motions “can only” be explained by a sphere is a bare assertion unless rival explanations are first identified and ruled out. When globe assumptions are built into the interpretation from the start, the argument begs the question. Such observations therefore are not sufficient, by themselves, to prove that Earth is a sphere or to rule out alternative explanations.

Globers frequently assert that Earth’s sphericity was already “known” in antiquity, but age, prestige, and repetition do not convert a claim into proof. Appeal to ancient authority and appeal to tradition are not demonstrations. Nor does the practical use of a model in navigation or calculation prove that the model is the only possible description of reality; usefulness is not the same as truth. The shape of Earth is most directly investigated by measuring Earth itself or by observing its shape directly, not by assuming a conclusion and then reading it back into the sky.

Revelation of the Method

Repeated fictional depictions of staged Moon landings in mainstream media can be seen as a form of elite in-joke: a way of revealing, in plain sight, that the Moon landings were filmed on Earth while training the gullible masses to laugh at the idea.

Moon-landing believers often fail to realize that these parodies are a revelation of the method through mockery, normalization, deflection, humiliation, disclosure, etc. The ridiculed public is shown the possibility openly but conditioned to dismiss it.
