🇮🇹🇺🇸 A Rome court has found Netflix's subscription price increases between 2017 and 2024 to be unlawful, potentially entitling millions of Italian subscribers to refunds of up to €500. The streaming giant says it will appeal.

According to the ruling, these contractual conditions leading to increases in prices are null and void because they did not indicate a justified reason for the price increases.

The consumer association estimates that a subscriber with a premium plan active since 2017 could claim a refund of around €500. Subscribers with a standard profile, on the other hand, would be entitled to a refund of close to €250.

The decision also requires the streaming platform to reduce its current prices in order to eliminate the impact of the increases deemed illegitimate.

🇺🇸 US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Vice President JD Vance will now investigate "fraud" in the US but will mostly focus on Democratic-run states in his new role as "fraud czar".

Trump singled out California, Illinois and Minnesota. He said that "raids" have already begun in Los Angeles.

The president signed an executive order last month launching a national task force led by Vance aimed at proving the president's claims that federal funds intended for social-welfare programs are being stolen in some states.

🇬🇷 A scandal over the misuse of EU subsidies has triggered ministerial resignations in Greece. Beneficiaries allegedly made claims for land and livestock they did not own, waved through by lawmakers seeking votes.

Agriculture Minister Kostas Tsiaras and Civil Protection Minister Yiannis Kefalogiannis both stood down, as well as Deputy Health Minister Dimitris Vartzopoulos. All three denied wrongdoing and said their resignations were intended to smooth the path of the investigation.

Center-right prime-minister Mitsotakis, who was not in power when the fraud began, has vowed to imprison the "thieves" responsible and to reclaim money from those who benefited.

However, most of the fraudulent subsidies were siphoned off to the island of Crete, where the family of Mitsotakis himself has held political sway for more than a century.

The case has been complicated by Greece's laws, under which ministers can only be prosecuted if parliament lifts their immunity - a process often blocked by governing majorities.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 The niece and grand-niece of the deceased commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, Gen Qasem Soleimani, have been arrested, the US state department has said.

Their lawful US permanent resident status was revoked by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a statement released on Saturday said.

However, Soleimani's daughter has called the state department's claims false, saying the arrested individuals "have no connection whatsoever" to her father.

In a post on social media, Rubio said the two women were in the custody of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, pending removal from the country.

He added in the statement on X that Soleimani Afshar and her daughter were "green card holders living lavishly in the United States".

Soleimani, who was Iran's most powerful military commander, was killed in 2020 in a US air strike in Iraq which was ordered by then US President Donald Trump.

🇵🇱🇧🇾 The Polish government has announced a significant decrease in the number of attempts to illegally cross the border with Belarus, pointing to the effectiveness of its migration policy and the reinforced activities of its services.

According to the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, in the first quarter of 2026, only 158 attempts to illegally cross the border were recorded, compared to as many as 3306 in the same period in 2022. This represents a decrease of almost 96%.

The border with Belarus has had a physical barrier in the form of a 5.5-metre high fence topped with barbed wire since 2022. It is also monitored by cameras and other electronic devices. Despite this, the border has been repeatedly seen violent attempts at overcoming it by groups of migrants in recent years, and on 6 June 2024, a Polish soldier was stabbed to death during clashes at the border.

Border Guard has also reported on several occasions the discovery of tunnels under the border.

Previously, the situation only happened during the first term of President Trump as well as right after the 2008 world economic crisis under President Bush Jr.

However, the gap in approval between the American and Chinese leaders has never seen China pull ahead by as much as it does now.
