Lionsgate has revealed the trailer for a direct-to-DVD action movie titled Invincible, not to be confused with that Mark Wahlberg football movie years ago also called Invincible. This one will be out at the beginning of March, if you have nothing better to do. Colonel John Taylor enlists billionaire inventor Leor Teska to fund a secret black site, testing Teska's new nano technology for military applications, developed by scientists. When one of the test subjects, Brock Cortez, escapes, Teska's head of security, Cam Devore is given the dangerous task of tracking him down. The crazy new tech makes people psychotic and invincible, but the only way to stop it is to try it for yourself. Starring Johnny Strong as Cam, with Marko Zaror, Michael Paré, and Sally Kirkland. "I'll take care of you..." IFC Midnight has unveiled the first trailer for Hatching, a freaky Finnish horror thriller from filmmaker Hanna Bergholm, making her feature directorial debut. This will be premiering at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival later this month, which is a big stop for this one, before hitting theaters in April. 12-year-old Tinja is desperate to please her mother, a woman obsessed with presenting the image of a perfect family. One night, Tinja finds a strange egg. She brings it home and nurtures it in her bed. What hatches is beyond belief. There definitely ain't a bird in there. Do we get all the answers to every questions? Are we reincarnated? Re-Entry is a stunning short film made by Dutch filmmaker Ben Brand (also of Life is Beautiful last year). A man dies in a car accident and, upon reawakening, strikes up a conversation with god. Answers to his questions lead to great insight about the meaning of life. Based on a short story by American bestselling author Andy Weir. The short stars Issaka Sawadogo and Johnny Bang Reilly. It was made with a massive $70K budget, shot on three different continents. The director explains: "I hope this film can evoke even the slightest positive feeling and love for ourselves and also everyone around us." "They have no qualms about replacing us." Netflix has debuted the full-length official trailer for Bigbug or Big Bug, the latest film from Amelie director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. It seems to be a play on the idea of robots recognizing how flawed humans are, and containing them for their own safety. Set in the near future, the sci-fi film involves a group of bickering suburbanites who find themselves stuck together when an android uprising causes their well intentioned household robots to lock them in for their own safety. (Sounds like an amusing sci-fi satire about lockdowns?) "Maybe it's the robots who've got a soul – or not!" It's arriving on Netflix in February for everyone to watch. Paramount Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for the 50th Anniversary 4K re-release of the seminal gangster movie The Godfather, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and first released in 1972. Samuel Goldwyn Films has debuted a new official US trailer for The Last Bus, a film from the UK made by Scottish filmmaker Gillies MacKinnon (Behind the Lines, Hideous Kinky, Tara Road, Castles in the Sky, Whiskey Galore). The film is about an elderly man named Tom whose wife has just passed away, and he decides to use only local buses on a nostalgic trip to carry her ashes all the way across the UK to Land's End, where they originally met, using his free bus pass. This is a heartwarming story that, obviously, got the attention of everyone he met along the way and has now been made into an uplifting film about remembrance. Timothy Spall stars as Tom, and he's joined by Phyllis Logan, Grace Calder, Celyn Jones, Brian Pettifer, Colin McCredie, Iain Robertson, and Marnie Baxter. Magnolia Pictures has revealed a new US trailer for an action thriller from South Africa titled Indemnity, made by an up-and-coming filmmaker named Travis Taute. This originally premiered at last year's Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, and we featured an early promo trailer last summer for it. Jarrid Geduld stars as a traumatized ex-firefighter from Cape Town who wakes up next to his murdered wife, with no recollection of what transpired. Labelled as the prime suspect, he goes on the run and is soon hunted by a notorious police chief, as well as an unknown third party. He must now fight for his life and find out who killed his wife, before the conspiracy changes the course of a nation forever. "Indemnity's lead, Jarrid Geduld, spent three months training with stunt masters Vernon Willemse and Grant Powell (Fury Road, Tomb Raider) and succeeded at all of his own stunts, including a record-breaking hanging suspension stunt performed from the 21st floor." A few years ago, a French editor named Fabrice Mathieu put together a fun fan film titled TS: Terminators, mashing up footage from all of the Terminator movies to tell a different story involving Arnold Schwarzenegger's various robots fighting each other. He's back again with TS2 Terminators 2: Primary Targets, the highly anticipated sequel to his first TS short. The story in the sequel takes place after James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day - "this time, the Connors are on their own." As amusing as this is, there's so much creativity in taking existing content and remixing / re-editing to make something new. Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed a new official US trailer for the indie film Lunana: A Yak in The Classroom, made in Bhutan by a filmmaker named Pawo Choyning Dorji. This originally premiered at festivals back in 2019, but has been waiting for an official release ever since then. An aspiring musician living with his grandmother in the capital of Bhutan, Thimphu, dreams of getting a visa to move to Australia. But he is instead sent to Lunana, to teach at a remote school high in the mountains. Starring Sherab Dorji as Ugyen. The film was submitted by Bhutan as their Oscar submission for 2021, but they ran into some problems. "Unfortunately, it was not officially accepted by the Academy because Bhutan hadn’t submitted a film in decades and did not have an officially recognized committee. [But] by the time the Bhutanese government was informed by the Academy of Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom's submission being disqualified, there was no time" to do this correctly. "If you ever come into contact with the creature, you're somehow connected – 'one with it?'" Have you ever meet this kind of sea monster before? Sea Critter is a VFX short film made on a tiny budget by a batch of up-and-coming filmmakers. It takes a while to get going, running long at 17 minutes in total, but there is an intriguing concept in here. A documentary crew uncovers the strange story behind Wilbur's encounter with a tentacled sea creature. This is made by filmmaker Eric Smigiel, and stars Scot Scurlock as the grizzled sea fellow named Wilbur. The film premiered at the Burbank Film Festival last year, and is available online to watch now. It's not the most impressive short film, a bit rough around the edges, especially with how long it spends interviewing him in the chair in the first half. But the ending is cool. Shudder has revealed an official trailer for the indie horror film titled Hellbender, described as an occult coming-of-age feature made by a family of indie filmmakers.
