Neon has unveiled the full US trailer for the award-winning Norwegian film The Worst Person in the World, from director Joachim Trier (Oslo August 31st, Louder Than Bombs, Thelma). This premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival in the summer, where I first flipped for it (here's my full review), and then Renate Reinsve won the Best Actress prize. It chronicles four years in the life of Julie, a 30-something young woman who navigates the troubled waters of her love life and struggles to find her career path, leading her to take a realistic look at who she really is. The film focuses on her relationships with two different men - Aksel, played by Anders Danielsen Lie, and Eivind, played by Herbert Nordrum. It's one of the best modern relationship films and truly one of the best films of 2021, there's no doubt about that. Finally playing in US theaters in February! The Foo Fighters made their first film during the pandemic - and it looks wicked fun. "This is about survival. You gotta be ready." IFC Films has revealed the official trailer for Catch the Fair One, a thriller about a Native American boxer named Kaylee "K.O." Uppashaw - played by Kali Reis. This premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival last year, and also played at the Woodstock, Buffalo, Deauville, Warsaw, and Philadelphia Film Festivals last year. A former champion boxer embarks on the fight of her life when she descends into the dangerous world of trafficking in search of her missing sister. Her strength and determination are tested as Kaylee fights the real fight of her life—to find Weeta and make her family whole again. Kali Reis stars, and she also co-wrote the script. The cast also includes Daniel Henshall, Tiffany Chu, Michael Drayer, Shelito Vincent, Lisa Emery, Kimberly Guerrero, and Kevin Dunn. And if you still need more convincing, it's executive produced by Darren Aronofsky. This is a very slick trailer, and makes it look like a real gem waiting to be discovered. A24 has unveiled an official trailer for a horror film titled X, the latest from acclaimed genre filmmaker Ti West (of The House of the Devil, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever, The Innkeepers, The Sacrament previously). This is arriving in theaters in March, another A24 release coming to the cinema soon. There's no official plot synopsis revealed, but the plot involves a film crew going to a rural location in Texas to shoot an adult movie. "Their hosts, a reclusive elderly couple, take a special interest in their young guests. As night falls the couple's leering interest turns violent." Saban Films has revealed the official US trailer for an Irish mystery thriller titled Here Before, from filmmaker Stacey Gregg making his feature debut. Andrea Riseborough stars as a distraught mother, haunted by the death of her young daughter, who develops an all-consuming obsession over the neighbor girl who she believes is the reincarnation of her child. When the new neighbors move in, she becomes transfixed by their young daughter, Megan. Eerily, she seemingly knows far too many specific details of their family life and displays similar mannerisms of their dead daughter. Is the trauma of losing her child causing Laura to lose grip on reality, or is Megan something else? The cast includes Niamh Dornan, Jonjo O'Neill, Eileen O'Higgins, Martin McCann, & Lewis McAskie. Lionsgate has revealed the trailer for a direct-to-DVD action movie titled Invincible, not to be confused with that Mark Wahlberg football movie years ago also called Invincible. This one will be out at the beginning of March, if you have nothing better to do. Colonel John Taylor enlists billionaire inventor Leor Teska to fund a secret black site, testing Teska's new nano technology for military applications, developed by scientists. When one of the test subjects, Brock Cortez, escapes, Teska's head of security, Cam Devore is given the dangerous task of tracking him down. The crazy new tech makes people psychotic and invincible, but the only way to stop it is to try it for yourself. Starring Johnny Strong as Cam, with Marko Zaror, Michael Paré, and Sally Kirkland. This will be premiering at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival later this month, which is a big stop for this one, before hitting theaters in April. 12-year-old Tinja is desperate to please her mother, a woman obsessed with presenting the image of a perfect family. One night, Tinja finds a strange egg. She brings it home and nurtures it in her bed. What hatches is beyond belief. There definitely ain't a bird in there. Starring Siiri Solalinna, Sophia Heikkilä, Saija Lentonen, and Jani Volanen. "Hatching is a fascinating portrait of the nature of maternal instinct, as Tinja battles to come to terms with the genuine emotional bond with her grotesque and bloodthirsty new found family while contending with the fraying connection to her own demanding mother." "So what happens now...?" One of the most vital and unanswerable questions about our existence on this planet: what happens when you die? Is there an after life? Do we get all the answers to every questions? Are we reincarnated? Re-Entry is a stunning short film made by Dutch filmmaker Ben Brand (also of Life is Beautiful last year). A man dies in a car accident and, upon reawakening, strikes up a conversation with god. Answers to his questions lead to great insight about the meaning of life. Based on a short story by American bestselling author Andy Weir. The short stars Issaka Sawadogo and Johnny Bang Reilly. It was made with a massive $70K budget, shot on three different continents. The director explains: "I hope this film can evoke even the slightest positive feeling and love for ourselves and also everyone around us." "They have no qualms about replacing us." Netflix has debuted the full-length official trailer for Bigbug or Big Bug, the latest film from Amelie director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. It seems to be a play on the idea of robots recognizing how flawed humans are, and containing them for their own safety. Set in the near future, the sci-fi film involves a group of bickering suburbanites who find themselves stuck together when an android uprising causes their well intentioned household robots to lock them in for their own safety. (Sounds like an amusing sci-fi satire about lockdowns?) "Maybe it's the robots who've got a soul – or not!" It's arriving on Netflix in February for everyone to watch. The ensemble cast features Elsa Zylberstein, Isabelle Nanty, Stéphane De Groodt, Claude Perron, Youssef Hajdi, Claire Chust, François Levantal, Alban Lenoir, André Dussollier, Marysole Fertard, and Hélie Thonnat. Samuel Goldwyn Films has debuted a new official US trailer for The Last Bus, a film from the UK made by Scottish filmmaker Gillies MacKinnon (Behind the Lines, Hideous Kinky, Tara Road, Castles in the Sky, Whiskey Galore). The film is about an elderly man named Tom whose wife has just passed away, and he decides to use only local buses on a nostalgic trip to carry her ashes all the way across the UK to Land's End, where they originally met, using his free bus pass. This is a heartwarming story that, obviously, got the attention of everyone he met along the way and has now been made into an uplifting film about remembrance. Timothy Spall stars as Tom, and he's joined by Phyllis Logan, Grace Calder, Celyn Jones, Brian Pettifer, Colin McCredie, Iain Robertson, and Marnie Baxter. Magnolia Pictures has revealed a new US trailer for an action thriller from South Africa titled Indemnity, made by an up-and-coming filmmaker named Travis Taute. This originally premiered at last year's Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, and we featured an early promo trailer last summer for it. Jarrid Geduld stars as a traumatized ex-firefighter from Cape Town who wakes up next to his murdered wife, with no recollection of what transpired. Labelled as the prime suspect, he goes on the run and is soon hunted by a notorious police chief, as well as an unknown third party. He must now fight for his life and find out who killed his wife, before the conspiracy changes the course of a nation forever. "Indemnity's lead, Jarrid Geduld, spent three months training with stunt masters Vernon Willemse and Grant Powell (Fury Road, Tomb Raider) and succeeded at all of his own stunts, including a record-breaking hanging suspension stunt performed from the 21st floor." He's back! A few years ago, a French editor named Fabrice Mathieu put together a fun fan film titled TS: Terminators, mashing up footage from all of the Terminator movies to tell a different story involving Arnold Schwarzenegger's various robots fighting each other. He's back again with TS2 Terminators 2: Primary Targets, the highly anticipated sequel to his first TS short. The story in the sequel takes place after James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day - "this time, the Connors are on their own." As amusing as this is, there's so much creativity in taking existing content and remixing / re-editing to make something new. "Who took that photo of me?" Netflix has unveiled a trailer for an Indonesian thriller titled Photocopier, which is now available to watch on Netflix worldwide (in most countries) as of today. The film premiered at last year's Busan Film Festival, then won a bunch of awards at Festival Film Indonesia - including Best Film, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and others. After losing her scholarship when photos of her at a party surface online, a student pairs with a photocopy worker to piece together what happened. "Will she see light at the end of the tunnel?" It seems like the deeper she gets, the more trouble she stirs up. Only because she just wants to find out what really happened. Another of these tragic stories about a young woman.
