Based on the beloved article "High Places: Footprints in the Snow Lead to an Emotional Rescue" by Ty Gagne, originally published in Reader's Digest. An experienced hiker attempts to save a stranger during a blizzard on Mount Washington. Naomi Watts stars as Pam Bales, who goes out for a hike on a day where a storm hits but before she comes back she finds a man and takes it upon herself to get them both down the mountain before nightfall arrives and they succumb to the storm. "Gravity is broken - leap as you like." Netflix has debuted the full-length trailer for a new anime film called Bubble, from "Death Note" and "Attack on Titan" filmmaker Tetsuro Araki. Here's the concept: The story is set in Tokyo, after bubbles that broke the laws of gravity rained down on the world. Cut off from the outside world, Tokyo has become a playground for a group of young people who have lost their families, acting as a battlefield for parkour team battles as they leap from building to building. Hibiki, a young ace known for his dangerous play style, makes a reckless move one day and plummets into the gravity-bending sea. His life is saved by Uta, a girl with mysterious powers. The pair then hear a unique sound audible only to them. Why did Uta appear before Hibiki? Their encounter leads to a revelation that will change the world. The voice cast features Jun Shison, Mamoru Miyano, Yuki Kaji, and Tasuku Hatanaka. This looks super trippy and creative, with so many ambitious ideas in one movie. What is going onnn?! "One day, we'll laugh at all this." Kino Lorber has revealed an official trailer for Hit the Road, an award-winning, outstanding little indie film from Iran. It's the feature debut of filmmaker Panah Panahi, who just so happens to be the son of acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi. This premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival last year in the Director's Fortnight section and ended up with tons of rave reviews (one of my favorites of the fest). The film follows a chaotic, tender Iranian family that has embarked upon a a road trip across a rugged landscape and fussing over the sick dog and getting on each others' nerves along the way. Only the mysterious older brother is quiet, as he is headed somewhere else. Panah Panahi "makes a striking feature debut with this charming, sharp-witted, and deeply moving comic drama." The film stars Pantea Panahiha, Hasan Majuni, Rayan Sarlak, and Amin Simiar. This is one of the best international films from last year that everyone must see when they get a chance. Following up the fantastic documentary last year, also titled just Julia (which is out to watch at home), this series tells the life story of American chef Julia Child. It is also inspired her long-running, beloved TV series, "The French Chef," which pioneered the modern cooking show. "What do you do when someone's mean?" IFC Midnight has unveiled an official US trailer for a freaky little Norwegian thriller about kids with powers called The Innocents, made by a writer / director named Eskil Vogt. In addition to directing the film Blind, which made my Top 10 in 2014, Vogt is also a co-writer on the Oscar-nominated The Worst Person in the World with his fellow filmmaker Joachim Trier. But this one is a bit scarier. During the bright Nordic summer, a group of children reveal their dark and mysterious powers when the adults aren't looking. In this original, gripping supernatural thriller, playtime takes a dangerous turn. The films stars Rakel Lenora Fløttum as Ida, Alva Brynsmo Ramstad as Anna, Sam Ashraf as Ben, and Mina Yasmin Bremseth Asheim as Aisha. "Her anger will grow as long as she remains in this box." Sony Pictures has revealed the first trailer for an intriguing new horror thriller titled Umma, the first narrative feature directed by a filmmaker named Iris K. Shim. They just scheduled this for wide release on March 18th in a few weeks, getting some horror into theaters right away. The story involves a Korean immigrant named Amanda, who lives a quiet life with her daughter on an American farm. But when the remains of her estranged mother arrive from Korea, Amanda becomes haunted by the fear of turning into her mother. Sandra Oh stars as Amanda, with a cast including Fivel Stewart, Dermot Mulroney, Odeya Rush, MeeWha Alana Lee, and Tom Yi. And best of all - it's produced by Sam Raimi! "There's nothing simple about this job." Here we go! Sony Pictures has dropped the full trailer for Bullet Train, an action movie set on a Japanese bullet train pulling into theaters this summer. We featured the viral ad teaser last week to build hype. The plot involves five assassins aboard this train who discover their missions all have something in common. An original movie event, Bullet Train is a fun, delirious action-thriller from the director of Deadpool 2, David Leitch. Brad Pitt headlines an ensemble cast of eclectic, diverse assassins – all with connected yet conflicting objectives – set against the backdrop of a non-stop ride through modern-day Japan. "You want to wipe everybody out?" Paramount has revealed a brand new official trailer for their 4K re-release of the entire The Godfather trilogy. Back in January we posted the trailer for just the first movie, but now there's a trailer for all three - being re-released together in a 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray package this March. The set will include The Godfather, The Godfather: Part II, and Coppola's recently re-edited version of the final film, Mario Puzo's The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone. It includes legacy commentaries by Coppola, as well as access to digital copies of each movie. "I am very proud of The Godfather, which certainly defined the first third of my creative life," said Francis Ford Coppola. Amazon has revealed an official trailer for the indie horror thriller titled Master, marking the feature debut of filmmaker Mariama Diallo. We just posted her excellent short film Hair Wolf a few weeks ago and now her feature is ready to be seen. It premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and is on Prime Video later this March. Two African American women begin to share disturbing experiences at a predominantly white university in New England. Regina Hall stars as a professor who has recently been promoted to "Master" of a residence hall. The arrival of a new Black student sets off a chain of events that makes them all confront systemic racism. "After a career spent fighting to make it into Ancaster's inner circle, Gail is confronted with the horrifying prospect of what lies beneath, her question ultimately becoming not whether the school is haunted, but by whom." "I'm not taking my hands off the truck, man." BritFlicks has revealed an official UK trailer for an indie film titled One of These Days, set in a small town in America, made by a German filmmaker named Bastian Günther. This first premiered in 2020 at the Berlin Film Festival but has never been released since then and still doesn't have a US release set yet. One of These Days follows competitors at one of these "Hands On" events where people have to keep their hand on a car to win it, which is a crazy thing to do but people are really desperate and "need" that truck. In a town in Texas, an annual endurance contest to win a pickup truck promises thrilling entertainment to spectators and the chance of a lifetime to participants, but ends in real tragedy. This stars Carrie Preston, Joe Cole, Callie Hernandez, Lucy Faust, Devyn A. Tyler, Ritchie Montgomery, Jesse C. Boyd, and Cullen Moss. "Whatever's going on will be handled by the real agents." Ha. Apple TV+ has revealed an official trailer for their new original series Slow Horses, adapted from Mick Herron's bestselling book of the same name. This darkly funny espionage drama follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5, known as the Slough House, due to their career-ending mistakes. Led by their brilliant but irascible leader, the notorious Jackson Lamb, they navigate the espionage world's smoke and mirrors to defend England from sinister forces. There has to be more to it than just that! I thought it be much funnier, but instead this reminds me of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. "We could use this money to do something real!" Amazon has revealed a new official US trailer for a British comedy series titled The Outlaws, finally arriving for streaming in the US on Prime Video this April. The first season already debuted in the UK on BBC last fall. Seven strangers from different walks of life forced together to finish a community payback sentence in Bristol. They're sent to clean up a derelict community center, until one day they discover a hidden bag of drug money. Will they all be able to agree on what to do with it? The Outlaws main cast features Stephen Merchant, Rhianne Barreto, Darren Boyd, Gamba Cole, Clare Perkins, Eleanor Tomlinson, Charles Babalola, Isla Gie, with Christopher Walken. This looks kooky and amusing, though I'm not sure it has the right stuff to become a modern classic. "Someone is trying to get to me and my blood... and I'm not gonna allow it." Saban Films has unveiled a new US trailer for a British revenge thriller called Bull, from filmmaker Paul Andrew Williams (of London to Brighton, Cherry Tree Lane). We featured the first UK trailer for this film last year, just before it played at the Fantasia Film Festival. Neil Maskell stars as "Bull," a former enforcer, mysteriously returns home after a ten year absence to seek revenge on those who double crossed him all those years ago. Described as "a brutal, subversive and wickedly suspenseful revenge thriller," with terrific performances from an electric Maskell and a terrifying David Hayman plus Tazmin Outhwaite. Yeah this looks like it's worth a watch if you're into gritty crime thrillers. That carnival ride shot at the end is still one of the best parts about this. "The perfect escape... requires the perfect collateral." Lionsgate has revealed a trailer for a trash new action thriller movie set in Los Angeles called Lockdown, from director Massimiliano Cerchi. Why title any movie Lockdown in this climate?! Aside from the fact that this will drive most audiences away, there already was a movie called Locked Down that no one saw anyway. Even though this seems to have nothing to do with the pandemic. In this action thriller starring Michael Paré & Bai Ling, hell on earth erupts as three savage criminals take over a precinct and hold the police force hostage. FBI special agent Roger Kinkaid tries to outwit the criminals and save the hostages, but one question remains: even if they get their money, how can they possibly escape? Also starring Michael Wainwright, Scott Engrotti, Raj Kala, and Chanel Ryan. "You're never going to get my powers!!" Paramount has revealed another fun, short new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, riffing on the next big movie about to open in theaters later this week. This new 50-second trailer is a play on The Batman, with Sonic even talking about how he's like Batman calling himself the "Blue Justice". They also released a TV spot back in December riffing on the newest Matrix movie right before it opened. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic must team up with Tails, together they will embark upon a globe-trotting journey. The movie stars Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles, Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Tails, plus Jim Carrey back as the evil Dr. Robotnik, with James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Lee Majdoub, and Shemar Moore. "Someone in our station betray4ed us" Amazon has unveiled an official trailer for All the Old Knives, a modern espionage thriller from Danish director Janus Metz, who last made the excellent sports film Borg vs. McEnroe. This new film is arriving in April in theaters and on streaming. Right around the same time as this other Chris Pine spy thriller The Contractor, which was delayed for years. In All the Old Knives, two CIA operatives, and former lovers, reunite at idyllic Carmel-by-the-Sea in the US to re-examine a mission six years ago in Vienna involving a hijacked airplane where a fellow agent might have been compromised. Chris Pine co-stars in this with Thandiwe Newton, joined by Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Pryce, Corey Johnson, Ahd, Abdul Alshareef, and Nasser Memarzia. "Think you're fooling anyone? Dressed in corpses?" Focus Features has revealed a second trailer for the supernatural horror film You Won't Be Alone. This just premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival in January, and opens in theaters in April. The film is a strange, supernatural horror set in an 1800s isolated Macedonian mountain village. "A young girl is taken from her mother and transformed into a witch by an ancient, shape-shifting spirit. Left to wander feral, the young witch beholds the natural world with curiosity and wonder. After inadvertently killing a villager and assuming her body, she continues to inhabit different people, living among the villagers for years, observing and mimicking their behavior until the ancient spirit returns, bringing them full circle." Noomi Rapace stars, joined by Anamaria Marinca, Alice Englert, Carloto Cotta, Félix Maritaud, and Sara Klimoska. I watched this at Sundance and couldn't stand it, a mess of a film in every possible way. The politics are extremely odd in this (very misogynistic), it's incredibly boring, and the filmmaking isn't that great. But that's just my opinion! Shudder has unveiled the official trailer for an indie horror film titled Night's End, the latest from director Jennifer Reeder (Signature Move, Knives & Skin, V/H/S/94). It's playing on Shudder at the end of March. An anxious shut-in moves into a haunted apartment, hiring a stranger to perform an exorcism which quickly takes a horrific turn. Pretty vague description. This seems to be another pandemic thriller, focusing on one man alone in his apartment while everyone else connects with him digitally. A realistic take on Zoom horror with "what if this was really happening to him?" The film stars Geno Walker, with Michael Shannon, Kate Arrington, Daniel Kyri, Theo Germaine, Lawrence Grimm, Morgan S. Reesh, and also Felonious Munk. This looks quite creepy! "Kicking old habits... can be deadly." LevelFilm in Canada has unveiled the official trailer for a Canadian indie horror drama titled Kicking Blood, about a female vampire who tries to give up blood and become human again. This first premiered at the 2021 Toronto Film Festival last year. When Anna, a centuries old vampire, watches Robbie, a charming but reckless young man, recover from his alcoholism, she decides to quit blood and restore her humanity. The filmmakers state that they were inspired to update the vampire mythology - explaining more: "the idea of being immortal and addicted and you have to live in darkness. You can’t see the sunlight and you have no soul, and would there be just the tiniest spark left to compel you to try to recover from your addiction and reconnect with your soul in the end."
