Movie, arriving in theaters this April. It's a TV spot entirely in the style of a local plumbers commercial, with all the trimmings and perfect riffs on plumbers trying to get your attention. It even has its own vintage '90s hip hop Run DMC-style jingle. All of this is just delightful. The video also leads to a viral website, for Mario & Luigi's plumbing business, with a number you can actually text (if you're in Brooklyn & Queens). The movie features the voices of Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser (of course), Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Sebastian Maniscalco. "It's time to shift into high gear. Mirage makes his debut as a legendary 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8." Paramount has debuted an extended Big Game spot for one of their big summer sequels - Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, introducing a brand new Autobot named Mirage. This is technically the 7th movie in the sentient alien robot series Transformers, bringing back Optimus Prime and the Autobots again. Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a '90s globetrotting adventure and introduce the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons to the existing battle on earth between Autobots and Decepticons. This Transformers movie stars Anthony Ramos (also from In the Heights) and Dominique Fishback, along with Tobe Nwigwe, Peter Cullen (as Optimus Prime), Ron Perlman (as Optimus Primal), Peter Dinklage (as Scourge), Michelle Yeoh (as Airazor), Pete Davidson (as Mirage - from this spot), Liza Koshy, John DiMaggio, David Sobolov, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, and Cristo Fernández. "Time has a pattern... that it can't help reliving." Warner Bros has revealed the first official trailer for The Flash movie, revealed during the Super Bowl after years of waiting. This movie has been in production for a while, delayed from opening last year with a new release set for June this summer. This movie about The Flash is also about Batman (again), bringing the two together in a "worlds collide" marketing slogan. But wait! There's a few more DC superheroes in here! Ezra Miller returns starring as Barry Miller, with a cast including Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, plus Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso, and Luke Brandon Field. And Michael Keaton is back as Bruce Wayne / Batman - "an older version of Wayne from an alternate universe." There's also a tease that Affleck's Batman is in this, too, as another alternate Batman. The biggest reveal is Supergirl, who shows up at the end looking quite badass. "My memory's a little fuzzy - are you still a Nazi??" Lucasfilm has debuted a new Super Bowl TV spot for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie, this one directed by James Mangold. The outstanding first trailer dropped last year, with an action-packed 30 seconds more of footage in this spot. They still haven't revealed any official plot details yet. Only: the film will be set in 1969 in the middle of the Space Race, with Harrison Ford back as Indy. Meanwhile, Voller, a NASA member and ex-Nazi involved with the Moon-landing program, wants to "rectify the world and make it into a better place as he sees fit." Along with Harrison Ford, The Dial of Destiny stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge (who shows up in this spot), Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, Antonio Banderas, and John Rhys-Davies. "Are you ready... for one last ride?" Marvel has debuted a second official trailer for James Gunn's sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 during all the Super Bowl Sunday mayhem (view the first trailer again). This Marvel Studios sci-fi extravaganza kicks off the summer movie season - launching in theaters on May 5th in a few months. "A shoe is just a shoe." "Until my son steps into it..." MGM + Amazon have debuted an extra Super Bowl TV spot for Air, to go along with the first official trailer that arrived just a few days ago. This spot also comes with a new title - Air: Courting a Legend - which gives it a bit more of a hook to setup what it's about. The movie tells the story of the salesman at Nike who works to sign Michael Jordan to this landmark deal, launching the iconic "Air Jordan" shoe line. It follows the history of shoe salesman Sonny Vaccaro, played by Matt Damon, and how he led Nike in its pursuit of the greatest athlete in the history of sports: Michael Jordan. It also co-stars Ben Affleck as Nike's Phil Knight, and he also directs the movie. Th cast includes Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, Chris Tucker, Viola Davis & Julius Tennon as Deloris & James Jordan, Matthew Maher, and Tom Papa. The Match Factory has revealed the first promo trailer for the German romantic drama Afire, the latest movie made by acclaimed German filmmaker Christian Petzold. He is best known for his films Jerichow, Barbara, Phoenix, Transit, and Undine previously, and his latest is also premiering at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival starting this week (hence the new trailer). Afire, also known as Roter Himmel (or Red Sky) in Germany, is about a group of friends staying at a holiday home by the Baltic Sea where emotions run high as the parched forest around them catches fire. It's obviously a love story about Paula Beer, as it seems every single guy in this trailer is madly in love with her. Natürlich. Signature Ent. in the UK has revealed an official trailer for an indie film titled My Sailor, My Love, an Ireland-Finland co-production from director Klaus Härö. This old age romantic drama premiered at TIFF 2022 last year, and just played at the Palm Springs Film Festival in the US earlier this year. Howard, a retired sea captain, refuses any help from his daughter Grace. When she hires Annie as domestic help for him, Howard unexpectedly falls in love. He gives all his affection to Annie and her family, but rejects his own daughter. My Sailor, My Love is a story about a guilt-affected daughter-father relationship. But it's also a love story between two elderly people, proving a new beginning is never too late. "He can have her one more time." The Match Factory has also unveiled a festival promo trailer for another new German film premiering soon at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival kicking off this week. Someday We'll Tell Each Other Everything is the latest film from filmmaker Emily Atef, following her Cannes 2022 feature More Than Ever. Set in a warm summer in 1990 in former East Germany, it follows a young woman who begins a passionate sexual relationship with a charismatic farmer who is twice her age. That's pretty much the entire story here, as it plays itself out. The film stars Marlene Burow, Felix Kramer, Cedric Eich, Silke Bodenbender, and Florian Panzner. "This is our world now!" Those damn kids! RLJE Films has unveiled an official trailer for Children of the Corn, a new update on the horror classic, originally based on the Stephen King story from the 1970s. It was adapted a few times before - there was the original 1984 horror movie Children of the Corn, which had a few sequels; and there was a TV movie version in 2009 for Syfy / Fox. After a few years waiting in release limbo, this 2023 update is set to open in theaters this March. Possessed by a spirit in a dying cornfield, a twelve-year-old girl in Nebraska recruits the other children in her small town to go on a bloody rampage and kill all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won't go along with the plan is the town's only hope of survival. The horror film stars Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey, and Bruce Spence, along with a bunch of freaky kids. "No reason to be nervous? They're only killers." Lionsgate and Miramax present the official US release of the Guy Ritchie action comedy Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, now called Operation Fortune (sans Ruse). STX was going to release this last year, but that studio shut down and they also had to fix some issues with Ukrainian bad guys in this movie (whoops). Now it's ready to finally land in US theaters starting March 2023 (it already opened in Europe last fall). Super spy Orson Fortune, played by Jason Statham, and his team of top operatives recruit Hollywood's biggest movie star, Danny Francesco, to help them on an undercover mission to stop the billionaire arms broker Greg Simmonds from selling a deadly new weapons technology that also threatens to disrupt the world order. The fun cast also includes Aubrey Plaza, Josh Hartnett, Cary Elwes, Bugzy Malone, Eddie Marsan, Tim Seyfi, with Hugh Grant as Simmonds. "He chased for knowledge, not thrill." Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for a storm thriller titled Supercell, made by a first-time filmmaker named Herbert James Winterstern. The poster for this has some ridiculously cheesy tornado art, but the movie seems to be a more grounded, realistic look at the intense life of storm chasers. Seemingly inspired by real life stories of storm chasers as well as the tour agencies that end up caught up in dangerously real trouble. A teenage boy runs away to follow his father's footsteps - the legendary storm chaser Bill Brody, played by Richard Gunn - when a powerful storm arrives. He wants to try to carry on his father's spirit with some tornado contraption. Stormcell stars Daniel Diemer as William Brody, with Skeet Ulrich, Anne Heche, Jordan Kristine Seamón, Anjul Nigam, and Alec Baldwin. This doesn't look as cheesy as so many other weather movies recently, but it also doesn't look as thrilling as it should. Still might be worth a watch (if you love wild weather). "Every child leaves a lasting mark on the shelter's worn out walls." There is a new official trailer available for an indie documentary film titled A House Made of Splinters, from Danish director Simon Lereng Wilmont. This Danish-Swedish-Ukrainian co-production first premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival last year, and stopped by numerous other festivals throughout the year. It's now nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Documentary category this year - a prestigious achievement. A House Made of Splinters is about a Ukrainian orphanage / home for kids. It focuses on the children & staff in a special kind of home: an institution for children who have been removed from their homes while awaiting court custody decisions. Staff do their best to make the time children have there safe and supportive. "Here we are - Day 2 of the apocalypse." Red Owl Film has revealed a promo trailer for a post-apocalyptic comedy called Skal, from filmmaker Benjamin Cappelletti. This is a Canadian production, however, "skål" is actually a Scandinavian word for toasting - kind of like saying "cheers" in English (though, funny enough, skål comes from the Old Norse term for drinking out of a defeated enemy's skull). The full title is SKAL - Fight for Survival and the film is being sold at the European Film Market (EFM). What is it about? Well, apparently it follows a video blogger / online "content creator" who decides to vlog the apocalypse when it hits. More social media satire. "I am Arthur, I am an online creator/comedy artist and I just hit 3 millions subs on my channel, but when all the water on the planet disappears over night, my hangover turns into an epic fight for survival." "Do you know why there is no peace? Because the devil has got the whole world in his hands." The Cinema Guild has revealed an official trailer for an indie documentary called Sansón and Me, which premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival last year. The acclaimed film also played at tons of other festivals, including Sheffield DocFest, DocsMX, Hot Springs Doc Festival, Denver Film Festival, and Cameraimage in Poland. After meeting this boy while working as an interpreter, director Rodrigo Reyes (also of 499) decided to make a film about him. Made over a decade, it tells the story of a young immigrant's path from coastal Mexico to a life sentence for murder in California. Sansón is now in a prison in the US, with no parole. With no permission to interview him, Sansón and Reyes worked together using hundreds of letters as inspiration for recreations of Sansón's childhood, featuring members of Sansón's own family. "I think I might have feelings for someone I've never met." Sony Pictures has revealed an official Valentine's Day trailer for a romantic comedy called Love Again, made by the filmmaker Jim Strouse (best known for Grace Is Gone, The Winning Season, The Incredible Jessica James). It's based on a book that was already turned into another German movie called Text for You, which is about the story and a woman who finds love over texts. Which sounds a bit scary more than lovely. A young woman tries to ease the pain of her fiancé's death (who walks out after an argument and never returns unfortunately) by sending romantic texts to his old cell phone number, and forms a connection with the man the number has been reassigned to. "What if love was only a text away?" The movie features new music from Celine Dion, and stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Sam Heughan, Russell Tovey, Celia Imrie, Lydia West, Omid Djalili, plus Celine Dion. "Ever wonder what love does to a memory? How about what a memory does to love?" Check out this new Valentine's Day romance horror short if you're in the mood for something a bit scary. Cautionary Tale is a 15-min short made by up-and-coming filmmaker J.L. Topkis and it is, well, a cautionary tale about being addicted to your phone. Starring Larkin Bell and Carlie Young, with an innovative glitch art editing style by Scott Morris (you have to watch to understand what this means). Text messages from beyond the grave reshape a woman’s life by warning her whenever she’s done something for the last time. This goes hand-in-hand with the trailer that also debuted on the same day for Love Again, about a woman who texts her dead fiance. What an eerie coincidence! This is a pretty trippy short, the editing is a bit jarring at first but it turns into something quite creative, almost like time travel horror.
