"This isn't like any other Ghostface..." Paramount Pictures has revealed their scary Super Bowl TV spot for Scream VI, the follow-up sequel to last year's Scream (also known as Scream 5). It's a full 60 second spot also announcing that tickets are now on sale - via the official site. Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four young survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter. This one brings the mayhem to New York City, as a new killer pops up in this city wreaking havoc. "You're like a real life Rambo!" Amazon has revealed a brand new trailer for a repackaged and recut Quibi series titled Die Hart, which will be (re)released for streaming on Prime Video later in February. This was initially made as one of these dumb Quibi series, where you view short snippets at a time on the app, and the service failed pretty quickly because it was a bad idea all along. The footage has been edited into a movie version, which will be streaming only. It follows a fictionalized version of Kevin Hart as he tries to become an action movie star. He attends a school run by Ron Wilcox (played by Travolta), where he attempts to learn the ropes on how to become one of the industry's most coveted action stars. Ugh. Originally written for Bruce Willis but Willis didn't understand the concept of Quibi (phew!) and turned it down replaced by John Travolta. The cast includes Nathalie Emmanuel, Josh Hartnett, and Jean Reno. This looks so bad, stay away folks. But props to them for releasing it anyway. "Aim for virtue, happiness will follow." German distributor Weltkino Filmverleih has revealed two official trailers for the film Seneca, the latest from director Robert Schwentke who has been working in Hollywood for years (he last made Snake Eyes). The full title is actually Seneca - On the Creation of Earthquakes, and this is premiering at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival later this month, with a German release set in March. A look at the relationship between Seneca and Nero, the infamous Emperor he mentored since childhood and who accused him of plotting his assassination. The plot revolves around Nero telling him to kill himself, and how Seneca then responds. "Schwentke has made a pyrotechnic display of a film that is almost peerless in its use of over-the-top punchlines, splatter-sarcasm and love of verbal precocity. Stunning and incredibly topical, Seneca asks: is the educated elite a victim of tyranny or an opportunistic collaborator? The time is indeed ripe for political allegories." "Guys - we've got a dick to rip off!!" Universal Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for a hilarious, foul-mouthed new doggie comedy titled Strays - definitely not a "family friendly" dog movie. It's landing in theaters in June this summer. "They say a dog is a man's best friend, but what if the man is a total dirtbag? In that case, it might be time for some sweet revenge, doggy style." An abandoned dog teams up with other strays to get revenge on his former owner, Doug, played by Will Forte. A subversion of the dog movies we know and love, Strays, directed by Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) is a hilarious, R-rated, live-action comedy about the complications of love, the importance of great friendships, and the unexpected virtues of couch humping. IFC Films has revealed the first teaser trailer for a film called Paint, from writer / director Brit McAdams. This is the Bob Ross film that is about Bob Ross but it's not really about Bob Ross, because the guy in this isn't called Bob Ross (but it's pretty much him). Owen Wilson stars as Carl Nargle, Vermont's #1 public TV painter who's convinced he has it all: a signature perm, custom van, fans hanging on his every stroke... until a younger, better artist steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves. He soon finds himself in a rut, and the station isn't pulling in ratings. So when they hire a new painter to revitalize the channel, Carl's own fears regarding his talents are brought to the forefront. "I believe in the theatrical experience." Paramount Pictures has debuted a new featurette for the 2023 re-release of Titanic, James Cameron's epic romantic tale of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. "Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the timeless love story this Valentine's Day Weekend." This is opening on the big screen again in 4K 3D (along with HFR screenings) and will play throughout February. This video focuses on the cast and filmmakers reflecting on making Titanic now 25 years later, to compliment the re-release trailer. With a cast headed by Oscar winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, the film is an epic, action-packed romance set against the ill-fated maiden voyage of the "unsinkable" Titanic, at the time, the largest moving object ever built. "I keep the world at a distance." Dark Star Pictures has unveiled the US trailer for a New Zealand indie sports film titled Punch, a boxing drama from filmmaker Welby Ings. This premiered at a few festivals last year, and is arriving in the US on VOD and in theaters in March. Jordan Oosterhof stars as Jim, a young boxer preparing for his first professional fight. He begins to rethink his life and his sexuality after tangling with Whetu, a gay Maori boy who spends his days in an old shack down by the beach. The two are forced to navigate isolation, homophobia, and the brutality of small-town life. As Jim discovers what it means to be gay, he realizes how little strength is connected to heroism. Another must watch short film creation from French filmmaker / editor Fabrice Mathieu. His latest is In the Shadow (also titled Dans l'ombre in French), a clever mash-up of film noir B&W footage to create an intriguing story about a shadow escaping his "wearer" in a city full of mystery and darkness. "A shadow is telling its life story with his 'Wearer', a flesh & bone double, who one day it decides to get rid of..." This is a proof-of-concept pitch made entirely from existing footage from more than 60 movies showing the most beautiful shadows in cinema history, from Nosferatu to Sin City to The Third Man, and everything else in-between. Terror Films has revealed a trailer for an indie horror / psychological thriller titled The Burial, which marks the feature directorial debut of Michael Escalante - who got his start in the movie business by interning at Roger Corman's New Horizons Pictures. After his estranged brother contacts him for help, a man and his girlfriend answer the call, only to find themselves unwittingly dragged into a murderous plot with severe consequences. Now set to open in US theaters this April, along with many other countries around the world. Adapted from Jamie McGuire's novel of the same name, the story is about two lovers - "bad-boy" Travis is exactly what freshman Abby wants and needs to avoid. He spends his nights fighting in underground boxing matches, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. But Abby wants nothing to do with Travis. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis' apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea he has met his match. This sounds like a toxic premise, or is it just me? "He wants the world to think that his bad dream has come true." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for their new movie version of the "Luther" British crime series. It's titled Luther: The Fallen Sun and it will be getting an official theatrical release in late February before it's out for streaming on Netflix in March. Big news for fans of this show! Brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther breaks out of prison to hunt down a sadistic serial killer who is terrorising London. Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther will finish the job by any means necessary. Idris Elba returns as John Luther, co-starring along with Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis, and Dermot Crowley, who returns as Martin Schenk. "What's the plan?" "We build a shoe line around just him." MGM + Amazon Studios have revealed the first official trailer for Air, the new movie directed by Ben Affleck. The title is a shortened version of Air Jordan, as the movie tells the story of the salesman at Nike who works to sign Michael Jordan to this landmark deal, launching the iconic shoe "Air Jordan" shoe line. It's the third time Ben Affleck & Matt Damon have written a script (though final credit goes to Alex Convery). Their first was Good Will Hunting (1997) which won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar. The second was The Last Duel (2021), though this is the first time Affleck has directed Damon. It follows the history of shoe salesman Sonny Vaccaro, played by Matt Damon, and how he led Nike in its pursuit of the greatest athlete in the history of sports: Michael Jordan. The cast also includes Affleck as Nike's Phil Knight, plus Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, Chris Tucker, Viola Davis & Julius Tennon as Deloris & James Jordan, Matthew Maher, and Tom Papa. For me personally, Dave Franco was never an actor that carried such an aura that automatically made a film or series tremendously more interesting entirely due to his presence. That said, his feature directorial debut, The Rental (from 2020), left a good impression, despite the movie itself being far from perfect. On the flip side there's Alison Brie (best known from "Community", "Glow", Horse Girl, Spin Me Round). "Where you are, Emma – be strong, be brave." Oscilloscope Labs has revealed an official trailer for an indie fantasy surreal thriller titled Moon Garden, from a filmmaker named Ryan Stevens Harris. This played at a number of film festivals last year, including Dances with Films, and is out in limited theaters sometime int he next few months. A comatose five-year-old girl journeys through an industrial wonderland (featuring stop-motion creations) to find her way back to consciousness. It was shot on 35mm with vintage rehoused lenses, giving this "fantastical odyssey" a handcrafted feeling, with fully practical FX in this story about how a child can shine light even in the darkest places. Haven Lee Harris stars as Emma, with Augie Duke, Brionne Davis, Maria Olsen, Timothy Lee DePriest, Philip E. Walker, and Margana Ignis. It has quite a few positive reviews: "Trauma though a child’s vivid imagination, where memories, joy and fear meld into fantastical, often terrifying, imagery, is the heart of the visually stunning Moon Garden." "It's time to come home." Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for an action movie called Assassin - winner of the most generic and uninteresting titles for any movie in the last few years. Just call it anything else than this!! Bruce Willis stars as the man who creates futuristic microchip tech that enables the mind of an agent to inhabit the body of another person to carry out covert missions. When a man dies during this experimental military program, a former black-ops soldier, who also happens to be his wife, takes his place using the tech to find out who killed him. Yet another of these Willis movies where it doesn't seem like he knows the movie he's in. The cast includes Andy Allo, Nomzamo Mbatha, with Dominic Purcell and Mustafa Shakir. Screen Media Films has revealed an official trailer for Devil's Peak, a "tense thriller" from filmmaker Ben Young. It's adapted from the novel Where All Light Tends to Go by David Joy, which was the original title before this film before they hcanged it to the VOD-search-friendly Devil's Peak. Set in the Appalachian Mountains, the story follows a family being dominated by a crime lord who uses his fists to control both them and his business. When his son meets the girl of his dreams, desperately wanting to escape the life he's expected to lead and then gain freedom from his father, he is forced to go head-to-head with the terrifying man who will stop at nothing to ensure loyalty from all of those around him. Intense! The film stars Billy Bob Thornton, Robin Wright, Hopper Penn, Katelyn Nacon, Emma Booth, Brian d'Arcy James, and Jackie Earle Haley. "Undefeated by the rain... Undefeated by the wind... Undefeated by the snow and the scorching summer heat." Oh my this is such a wonderful short film - one of the best this year so far. The Voice Actress is an entrancing 15-minute short film made by Japanese-American filmmaker Anna J. Takayama. It's a tribute to her mom, who was also a voice actress in Japan. After first premiering at festivals last year and picking up some awards - the short is now available online for everyone. It's a must watch! The fictional film follows a woman named Kingyo, played by Urara Takano (who's also a real voice actress in Japan for many anime characters), who possesses an ability to see the soul in all things. But the voice acting world is changing and she must find a way to reconcile her way of living with the modern industry. It's a beautifully shot, sincere film about a woman who deeply cares about her work and her (voice) performances being authentic. "Show me the evidence" Vertical Ent. has revealed an official trailer for a legal thriller titled Confession, the latest from filmmaker Dayna Hanson. It will be out to watch in March if anyone cares. The story follows a small-town district attorney named Jillian who takes on the case of a young woman who has accused three men of sexual assault, only to find her career and life in jeopardy as she unravels the dark web of murder and intrigue that lies beneath the surface of the town. Michael Ironside co-stars as a veteran investigator "diving into the complex case only to find difficulties and danger in spades as they hope to serve justice." Of course.
