Jackson as "an ailing man forgotten by his family, by his friends, and by even himself." So sad. Suddenly left without his trusted caretaker, Ptolemy Grey is assigned to the care of an orphaned teenager named Robyn. When they learn about a treatment that will restore Ptolemy’s dementia-addled memories, it takes them all on a journey toward shocking truths. The six-episode series will debut will debut this March on Apple TV+. The cast also includes Dominique Fishback, Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, and Damon Gupton. Well this looks quite interesting. Jackson looks better than he has been for years with a deep, complex performance. And I'm glad this film explores the challenges that come with dementia in this way. "Something happened on the island a few years ago." Well Go USA has revealed another official trailer for time loop horror thriller 6:45, made by filmmaker Craig Singer. This already opened last year, apparently although we never heard about it, and it lands on DVD coming up in March (which is what this new trailer is for). What if one of the best days of your life suddenly turned into your very worst nightmare? What if you were forced to relive that same day again and again? A couple embarks on a weekend getaway only to find the island curiously deserted. After stumbling upon the town’s dark secret, they trigger a time loop, forcing them to relive a demented cycle of terror with seemingly no means of escape. The film stars Michael Reed, Augie Duke, Armen Garo, and Thomas G. Waites. "Is it about what's right, or what's practical?" Grasshopper Film has revealed a new US trailer for Friends and Strangers, an experimental indie from Australia which originally premiered at last year's Rotterdam Film Festival. The film also played at New Directors/New Films Fest and the Chicago Film Festival last year. Friends and Strangers follows two upper-middle class wanderers in a dryly comic exploration displacement and ennui in contemporary Australia. Reviews talk about how eccentric but uniquely amusing it is: "Friends and Strangers had me cackling at its dry and gleeful absurdity... it's mumblecore par excellence but laced with a satire of white Australia and its historical amnesia." I can't figure out what to make of the couple in the middle of this trailer. Is it about them, and what's happening to them, or about something else going on and they're just a part of the bigger picture? One of the first things animators learn when starting out is how to animate a bouncing ball, an important part of mastering the techniques. This entertaining animation project continues that intriguing concept by inviting collaboration worldwide with a simple pitch: pass the ball. Created by animation filmmaker Nathan Boey, Pass the Ball features a total of 40 unique animated segments. His idea: "I always liked how rappers were able to collaborate with other rappers by featuring them on their songs. That doesn’t exist the same way in the film world." So he got 40 different animators to create a 3 second animation of a ball, then pass it on to someone in another country. Each person "picks up where the other left off" and continues. And after years of working on this, the final film is ready! It's terrific! And features so many different animation styles. "I have so many things I want to tell you..." Screen Media Films has unveiled an official trailer for a comedy called Family Squares, which is a fun name riffing on the classic "Hollywood Squares" TV game show. It's also a reference to this being a Zoom collective film, featuring segments shot remotely by each of the actors. It's a story inspired by director Stephanie Laing's own mother's passing in 2019, eventually made during the pandemic. The film is about a family matriarch, Grandma Mabel, who passes away suddenly but in her last days tries to bring her dysfunctional family together. Digitally. The ensemble cast includes June Squibb, with Ann Dowd, Judy Greer, Billy Magnussen, Casey Wilson, Henry Winkler, Sam Richardson, Margo Martindale, Timothy Simons, Zoe Chao, Scott MacArthur, Elsie Fisher, Jessica Miesel, and Maclaren Laing. The complete list of nominees for the 94th Academy Awards, the most prestigious award in Hollywood, have been announced today (from Oscars.org). The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed the nominees via live broadcast. The nominations from 2021 are, as usual, an exciting and intriguing set of nominees with plenty of surprises and expected picks - including Drive My Car from Japan, the animated documentary Flee, and Spielberg's West Side Story sneaking in. Jane Campion's excellent The Power of the Dog has a total of 12 nominations, and Denis Villeneuve's Dune has a total of 10 nominations - the two clear frontrunners out of all of the films from last year. "Our first test flight is a go." Pixar has revealed a full-length official trailer for Lightyear, one of the new Pixar Animation Studios movies arriving in 2022. Let's goooo!! This one is a sort of prequel to Toy Story, focusing entirely on Buzz Lightyear as a spin-off solo movie about the Space Ranger. Chris Evans will be voicing the real Buzz Lightyear, the astronaut within the Toy Story universe who inspired the action figure. The plot involves Buzz being marooned in an alien planet and having to figure out a way to build a spaceship and get home. But that only seems like the beginning of this story! Joining the previously announced Chris Evans, who is voicing Buzz, are Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, and Taika Waititi as a group of ambitious recruits. "My wife is not your patient, Doctor, Justin is." An official trailer has debuted for this indie psychological thriller titled Trouble Sleeping, made by the Canadian filmmaker Robert Adetuyi. This has taken years to finally get a release after first unveiling in 2018, but perhaps there's a reason it has taken so long. Just take a look at the trailer below. Tormented by the memories of her late-husband's suicide, a woman's life is further complicated by the arrival of her stepson, who apparently will soon inherit all of his father's wealth. But something else is amiss. The film stars Vanessa Angel, Billy Zane, Rick Otto, Ingrid Eskeland, Kale Clauson, and Fred Stoller. This film looks especially forgettable and bland, it's so obvious what's going on from this trailer you can probably figure out exactly how it's going to end. Netflix has revealed a teaser trailer for their Polish mystery thriller series Hold Tight, arriving on Netflix sometime later in 2022. This sounds pretty cool? Magdalena Boczarska and Leszek Lichota will play the main roles in the Polish original - the second adaptation of a Harlan Coben book. They star as a couple in a happy marriage, Anna and Michał Barczyk. Their son, Adam, will be played by Krzysztof Oleksyn. Affluent Warsaw suburbs, close-knit residents living an idyllic life. All hell breaks loose when an eighteen-year-old Adam vanishes into thin air. Then violence escalates when parents try to protect their adolescent children who take matters into their own hands. Both Agnieszka Grochowska and Grzegorz Damięcki, known from the previous Polish adaptation of Harlan Coben, The Woods, will also return to their roles. "What's better than being tough, is being prepared." Lionsgate has revealed a new official trailer for the crime thriller For the Love of Money, from director Leslie Small. This actually opened in select theaters last year, but we seemed to have missed it entirely. It also premiered at the Peachtree Village Film Festival last fall. And will be out on DVD/BR starting in March, which is why there's a new trailer for it. Keri Hilson stars as Gigi Davis, a determined single mom who walked away from a billion-dollar family business to chart her own path. When she is pushed to her limit, she turns to the only world she knows, a world she's spent a lifetime running from, in order to fight to protect her daughter. The cast includes Katt Williams, Keith Sweat, LisaRaye McCoy, Rotimi, DC Young Fly, Jason Mitchell, and Jazzy Jade. "Don't let the blues die." IFC Films has revealed an official trailer for The Torch, the groovy new music documentary about the blues guitar icon Buddy Guy. This originally premiered back in 2019 at the Chicago Film Festival, and is finally getting a release coming up this winter. As an intro: Buddy Guy is an exponent of Chicago blues who has influenced generations of guitarists including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Gary Clark Jr. and John Mayer. At 83, he remains the standard bearer for the blues, an icon determined to see the art form live on for much longer after he's gone. Enter guitar phenom Quinn Sullivan, who has been mentored by Guy since he was a young kid. "You can't conquer the mountain." DocBusters has unveiled an official US trailer for another new mountain climbing doc called The Lost Mountain, from filmmaker Chris Terrill. This is arriving on VOD to watch in the US starting in March, if anyone wants to give this a look. The film tells the unforgettable story of the 30-year-old climber Tom Ballard who disappeared on the so-called killer mountain, Nanga Parbat, in 2019. Ballard was a British rock climber, alpinist and the son of mountaineer Alison Hargreaves, who perished on K2 in 1995. Mother & son, two of the greatest climbers of all time, died at almost the same age, in the same mountain range, both doing what they loved best. Paramount Pictures has debuted a new 60-second extended TV spot for The Lost City, the travel adventure buddy comedy formerly known as Lost City of D, the modern update on Romancing the Stone - but with Sandra Bullock & Channing Tatum as the two hunky leads. We posted the first official trailer last December. A reclusive romance novelist on a book tour with her cover model gets swept up in a kidnapping attempt that lands them both in a cutthroat jungle adventure. This was filmed last year mostly in the Dominican Republic, including Samaná, Santo Domingo, Casa de Campo, and Pinewood Dominican Republic. At least it's not all fake sets. The eccentric cast also includes Daniel Radcliffe, Patti Harrison, Oscar Nunez, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, and Brad Pitt. There's no official synopsis available, but from what we can tell in this trailer, it's more of a horror than a sci-fi film this time. Jessie Buckley stars as a woman who goes on a solo vacation in the English countryside after the death of her ex-husband. It also features Rory Kinnear and Paapa Essiedu, but that's it. Featuring cinematography by Rob Hardy (who also shot Ex Machina, M:I Fallout). This looks super creepy an unsettling, like the scariest parts inside of the zone in Annihilation. Universal has unveiled the first full-length trailer for a Blumhouse remake of the iconic horror film Firestarter, adapted (again) from the Stephen King novel of the same name. This is set to debut in May, both in theaters and streaming on Peacock. In a new adaptation of King's classic thriller from the producers of The Invisible Man, a girl with extraordinary pyrokinetic powers fights to protect her family and herself from sinister forces that seek to capture and control her. This looks exactly like the modern, gritty update you'd expect - right down to the cliche lines about how she's a "real superhero", even tossing in "liar, liar, pants on fire." Ah man, don't make Croatia look scary, too! I've always wanted to visit. A weekend getaway to Croatia goes awry when a woman (Leighton Meester) is accused of killing her best friend (Christina Wolfe) and her efforts to get to the truth uncover a painful secret. From that description this sounds like a thriller version of the Amanda Knox story, which was already turned into the Matt Damon film Stillwater from last year. In addition to Meester & Wolfe, the cast includes Ziad Bakri, Luke Norris, and Amar Bukvic. This looks extra cheesy, with all the partying and all the on-the-run scenes. "Il grande ritorno del maestro!" Wait, you're telling me Dario Argento made another new film?! Yes he did! And it's probably not going to be any good, but here we go anyway. Argento's latest is Dark Glasses, also known as Black Glasses, another new mystery thriller horror with all his usual blood and violence. It's the first film he has made since Dracula 3D in 2012, which pretty much no one saw anyway. Dark Glasses is premiering first at the 2022 Berlin Film Festival this month, then it will open in Italy at the end of February. Diana, a young woman who lost her sight, finds a guide in a Chinese boy named Chin. Together they will track down a dangerous killer through the darkness of Italy. The cat includes Ilenia Pastorelli as Diana, Andrea Zhang as Chin, with Asia Argento (of course), Andrea Gherpelli, Mario Pirrello, and Maria Rosaria Russo. I've got a feeling this is going to be really bad, but who knows. He once was a master, but has lost his touch. "Why help us?" Capital Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie sci-fi called Beyond Existence, made by filmmaker Schuman Hoque. It's premiering soon at the Boston SciFi Film Fest and then will end up on VOD later this year. "What happens to our world when technology exceeds humanity?" The film follows Ellen, a government agent who is forced to protect a professor who holds a deadly secret.
