"That old man said... you died fifty years ago." Yellow Veil Pictures has released an official trailer for The Long Walk, a slow born indie sci-fi horror film from the country of Laos (see Google Maps). This initially premiered at the 2019 Venice Film Festival playing in the "Venice Days" sidebar, and it also played at TIFF and Fantastic Fest and the Sitges Film Festival a few years ago. Made by a Laotian filmmaker named Mattie Do, this film has earned some rave reviews. She is the first and only woman filmmaker from Laos, and the only filmmaker of the country to work in the horror and fantastic genres. An old Laotian hermit discovers the ghost of a road accident victim can transport him back in time 50 years to the moment of his mother's painful death. Starring Yannawoutthi Chanthalungsy, Vilouna Phetmany, Por Silatsa, Noutnapha Soydara, Chanthamone Inoudome, and Vithaya Sombath. This is a very cool film, with some original ideas that we've never really seen before. If this kind of quiet horror is your jam, you really need to see this. https://onfs.net/3o0sUSq

"I'm still plenty angry, you understand, but the difference is that I am now able to strike back." Super LTD has revealed the first teaser trailer for this film known as Ted K, from filmmaker Tony Stone. This already premiered last year at the 2021 Berlin Film Festival, and it played at Camerimage and the Stockholm Film Festival. Sharlto Copley stars as the infamous madman. The film is an exploration of Ted Kaczynksi's life in Lincoln, Montana in the years leading up to his arrest as The Unabomber. Based on Kaczynski's diaries and writings, the film is a kaleidoscopic true crime journey into the life of one of America's most complex and eccentric killers. It features a tour-de-force performance by Copley who portrays the complexity of this unique outsider, raging at the forces of both the inescapable technological society that plagues him and his own inner demons. Also with Drew Powell, Travis W Bruyer, and Wayne Pyle. This is a gnarly teaser. https://onfs.net/3r6aQZ4

"You have no idea who you partnered with." Tell that to the video game studio... Sony Pictures has revealed another new official trailer, the third one so far, for the Uncharted movie. It's based on the popular video game series about an adventurer named Nathan Drake, and it looks as bad as every other video game movie before it. Tom Holland stars as Drake, who goes on his first treasure hunting adventure with wisecracking partner Victor "Sully" Sullivan, played by Mark Wahlberg. The main cast also includes Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas. We've posted two other full trailers for this already, but none of them are looking any better. Maybe it will be so bad that it's actually fun? But it also seems like they totally forgot about what makes the game great and how that could translate to the big screen and made something else. https://onfs.net/3Hci1Vd

"I used to use fabric as a way to hide myself. But now its become a way for me to show myself." Greenwich Ent. has released an official trailer for the documentary film Let Me Be Me, arriving in the US in theaters and on VOD late in February. This heartwarming, inspiring film is about a family that learns to connect with their autistic son through a radical treatment program. Withdrawn and constantly wrapping himself in fabric and blankets, Kyle was retreating from the world around him when he was very young and his parents weren't sure how to help. Twenty years later, the entire family looks back at Kyle's journey with candor and humor. Let Me Be Me reveals what happens when a boy who used fabric as his shield to hide himself grows up to become a fashion designer, forging connections with friends and family along the way. This looks like an inspiring, authentic story of growth, not only in learning to understand Kyle, but it's also a moving story of appreciating what makes someone who they are. "I'm going to count to three... and you'll go back to the past." Scream Factory has released an official trailer for On The 3rd Day, an Argentinian horror fantasy thriller launching on VOD / DVD this March in the US. It played at last year's Fantasia Film Festival and opened in Argentina earlier that year. While on a trip with her young son, Cecilia has a car accident. Three days later, she finds herself wandering a lonely road with no sign of her child—and no memory of what happened since the crash. Cecilia's desperate search for her son leads her on a tumultuous journey to face off against a religious fanatic who holds the shocking key to it all. The film stars Mariana Anghileri as Cecilia, along with Arturo Bonín, Diego Cremonesi, Lautaro Delgado, Mathias Domizi, & Nicolás Galvagno. This certainly looks creepy and strange. How did they make that? Netflix has debuted a fascinating new behind-the-scenes documentary film for The Power of the Dog. The featurette is under 20 minutes and spends time on set and in post-production with filmmaker Jane Campion. The video is titled Behind The Scenes with Jane Campion and can be watched on Netflix for free along with the film. This is part of Netflix's push for The Power of the Dog during the Awards Season, with hopes it'll get more than a few Oscar nominations. It's pretty much a DVD Special Feature available on streaming. "A rare glimpse into the creative process of Academy Award winning writer, director and producer Jane Campion as she shares her memories of the making of The Power of the Dog." There are two excellent films from Finland playing at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival this year. Both are great discoveries at the fest – and both deserve to be talked about, too. The first one is a portrait of Finnish youth called Girl Picture, though the original Finnish title is much better - Tytöt Tytöt Tytöt which just translates to Girls Girls Girls (watch the trailer). The second one is a freaky little horror comedy film called Hatching, also known as Pahanhautoja in Finnish (watch the trailer), about a girl who finds a strange egg that becomes big and hatches something evil. Both of them feature similar themes of perfectionism, growing up, what it's like to be a girl in Finland, and how hard it is to deal with parents. But they're very different films and I'm delighted to report that each one is enjoyable and worth watching. While there are plenty of films coming out of Norway & Sweden already, talented Finnish filmmakers are finally on the rise now, too. https://onfs.net/32C8TKu

"Will love always be this painful?" Madman Films in Australia has unveiled another official trailer for the indie comedy Dr. Bird's Advice For Sad Poets, made by filmmaker Yaniv Raz. "It felt like... I was visited." "I can feel life growing inside me." Sky TV has revealed an official trailer for an intriguing new sci-fi series debuting this summer called The Midwich Cuckoos. This is the kind of sci-fi we'll post about even if it is more TV. The film is an exciting modern-day reimagining of John Wyndham's science fiction classic novel first published in 1957. A small fictional village in England named Midwich is completely subdued by an alien presence for an entire day. Upon waking, it is discovered that numerous women in the town are pregnant. As the children of the phenomenon grow, it becomes clear they are not of this world. Sounds similar to that Icelandic series Katla recently, but with British sensibilities instead. Time to go see the world! Our friends at the website Short of the Week remind us that "short film is where innovative storytelling is born." And this is one of those shorts that will impress everyone! Ties is a short film made by a Russian animator / filmmaker named Dina Velikovskaya who now lives in Berlin. She has used various methods and special materials for her animated projects in the past, but this time she decided to experiment with 3D printing. What's it about? A young woman leaves home and sets off to see the world. But the parent–daughter relationship is so strong that, in the end, these ties become destructive. The film is made using the plastic material many 3D printers utilize, which she molds into various shapes to create the characters and scenes. Not only is it visually innovative, the story is quite moving, too. This short really is a wonderful creation, and hopefully it'll bring extra attention to Dina while she continues to make more films. https://onfs.net/3KSCrVG

Fight the power!! One of the best documentary films premiering at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival is a story of an Indigenous tribe in the Amazon rainforest. The film is called The Territory, and it's made by an up-and-coming filmmaker named Alex Pritz, making his first feature, and it's produced by none other than Darren Aronofsky and his company Protozoa Pictures. The film features some of my favorite scenes in any doc film at the festival, following these people around their territory as they defend their land from non-Native invaders. The film very diligently and very empathetically establishes a dual narrative, and also very carefully uses the right words to describe how these Natives are being attacked by dangerous outsiders. I only caught up with this film late in the festival, after watching nearly 50 other films, and it still completely rocked me. "Don't go looking at anybody but me." A festival promo trailer has been revealed for this German film The Forger, premiering at the 2022 Berlin Film Festival in just a few weeks playing in the Special Gala section. Based on a true story, German filmmaker Maggie Peren's new film centers on 21-year-old Cioma Schönhaus, a Jewish person living in Berlin in the 1940s. His very existence is threatened by the Nazis, but he won't let anyone take away his zest for life, especially not the Nazis. So he decides to "hide in plain sight" using the identity of a marine officer he creates, throwing himself into the city's nightlife. By day he makes fake IDs to save the lives of others, but it gets riskier and riskier. The filmmaker says this is "the story of a person who rebels against stigmatization. The regime of terror is present, but we do not offer the Nazis a platform. We see them through Cioma's eyes as we see everything through his eyes." That's a much better hook for this than the official synopsis. This stars Louis Hofmann (from "Dark)" as Cioma, Jonathan Berlin, Luna Wedler, Nina Gummich, Marc Limpach, André Jung, and Yotam Ishay. Hopefully this will be good. https://onfs.net/3rbS2aW
