Attn Finn (and LTG):
Now that the focus is on NGOs we might want to update the line about 30,000 NGOs on €6bn a year.
Great line but it stretches credibility. For a reason.
Most are GAA clubs and Parishes etc. A major part of the funding is for outsourced health care.
Happily someone has done the audit for us. Another NGO - Benefacts. Turns out they weren't helpful to the cause and lost their funding in 2023.
All that remains is a defunct website with their end of year reports.
https://benefactslegacy.ie/reports/
Those reports contain links to spreadsheets covering all NGOs by category and more. But the links are all dead. Someone didn't want them public. Unless...
If you look at the reports in the "Wayback machine" you can download all the spreadsheets and more.
20,000 NGO/Charities worth.
They're fascinating.

Which of 56 sectors they're in. Which have CHY no.s which CRO.
For example everything on this page is available.

Now the quiet part out loud part is that the main hub for all NGOs in Ireland (The Wheel) claims the NGO sector is worth 14 billion not 6.

The 2021 report
https://benefactslegacy.ie/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/benefacts-charities-in-ireland-2021.pdf
says 800m went to the1500 charities involved in Local Development (p 16)
Whereas 3,4bn (60% from the state) went to Health Care (incl 34 hospitals) and 2.4bn went to social services.
Local development 800m, International development 500m, Advocacy and Rights 250m seem like who we should be concentrating on.

If you want to narrow it down even further you focus on the NGOs on record as lobbying the government. And then focus on the top ten percent of these. Start with the ones meeting on influencing government policy multiple times a year. Don't start with the 5 rainbow flag wavers association in North Leitrim.

Cough cough... Rethink Ireland, formerly known as Social Innovation Fund Ireland, is an organization that supports innovative non-profit organizations working across Ireland. It provides cash grants and business support to social innovations that can make a significant impact on a national scale. Rethink Ireland collaborates with the government, companies, families, individuals, and foundations to fuel these innovations with the necessary knowledge, advice, and connections to succeed. Their objective is to open doors for these organizations and give them access to networks that can assist in their growth and impact .

Unironically, this should become a reality: citizens creating content for their community, independently focusing on the activities of local development companies and county council operations, including meetings. This should be informative and operate without interference from those organizations. If tackling large NGOs in Dublin seems out of reach, start closer to home. The technology exists for you to make this happen.

For overwhelming Irish support of Gaza and Palestine, in return we get: two beheaded gay people, the murder of a Japanese tourist, the murder of a Romanian prostitute, the killing of an Irish toddler in Armagh, the murder of a man in Clare, the mass stabbing of children at a gaelscoil, 50% of all doctors struck off the medical register, endless sex attacks, and now the smashing up of DP centers in Dungarvan. This is from 2 - 4% of the population. Imagine what the place would be like if we weren't openly pro-Palestinian. For the record, no Muslim has been murdered by an Irish native in 10 - 20 years. Possibly ever.
