Nationwide, there are over 40 international protection sites exclusively for single males. In contrast, only 6 centers are solely for females. Other centers might house a mix of families and singles or be dedicated solely to families.

The Irish Refugee council have been alerted to grave concerns for the safety of women and children in mixed centres. The solution is to separate and rehouse the males in new locations where the risk is passed onto Irish Families and communities. These families are then labelled racist and far right for voicing similar concerns that were raised to the Refugee Council. Single male only centres have opened in 40+ Irish communities in the last 18 months.

There are another 1000 ipas residents in private accommodation outside of the centres.
