Compare and contrast.
There is a scene in Jackson's "The Two Towers" that I wonder whether the current anti-Trumpers on "our" side have ever seen.
Theoden and his people are trapped in Helm's Deep, and he is despairing. Aragorn gives him what for (I paraphrase): "These people depend on you to lead them, and you would tell them to despair?! You are their king," meaning, the one they look to for COURAGE.
The temptation is ALWAYS to listen to the whisperers telling you that there is no hope. It is so much easier to fall back under Grima's spell than to stand against despair.
