1. A man running a marathon, gets dehydrated and sweating a lot. you measure the Blood pressure to be 100/70 mm (hg). What fluid do you suggest for him?
Ans : ORS Saline
This was a very straight forward thing, there is nothing in the stem that says the patient would require IV fluids. Oral replacement would be enough.

2. A patient comes in with intestinal obstruction and shock. BP is 80/60 mm (hg). Your choice of fluid for him?
Ans : Hartmans solution
This patient requires resuscitation and Hartman is the fluid to choose!

3. A patient with head trauma , develops EDH. You do the operation and plan to keep him NPO for 24 hours. Your choice of fluid in the post operative order would be?
Ans : 2L of Ns
if patient was beyond first 24 hours you would think of adding DNS to it. For the first 24hour of NPO 2L of NS would do just fine.

4. A patient comes in with diarrhea, serum creatinine is 2.1 and K+ is 5.5 mmol/L . You have to manage urgently with IV fluid. What would your choice of fluid be?
Ans : NS
Cholera saline should be the choice but look at the labs, patient has AKI. This is where you stop giving cholera saline, as it is rich in K+

5. Patient is admitted with severe watery diarrhea, develops low urine output. The lab results come in and you see both creatinine and Electrolyte is normal. Now what would your choice of IV fluids be?
ans : cholera saline
- Remember diarrhea with normal Labs, cholera saline and only cholera saline is the way.
As in diarrhea there is mainly Hco3 and K loss, both replaced by cholera saline properly

6. A biker suffers from head injury, CT scan reveals a Acute subdural hemorrhage. You call the consultant and he says it will take him 3 hours to arrive. Meanwhile the patient starts developing irregular breathing pattern. You must give a IV fluid to reduce the ICP a bit. What would your first choice be?
ans : inf Mannitol
- all of you answered 3% Nacl, remember I made 3% NACL easier than it is. it is used in ICU's.
and you guys did read how to manage a raised ICP case right?
what is the fluid ? mannitol and only mannitol
