PRESS RELEASE
Where: US District Court House 205 NW 2nd street Ocala FL 34475
When: Feb 25th at 9am we will meet out in front of the court house. Our hearing is at 10 am. We will be easy to spot. Will be driving a double decker school bus with two VW vans on top and wearing prison uniforms and diapers.
Who: Rainbow Family/Jesus Kitchen/Nomads Land/Let My People Go Bill
Why: We are protesting our right to peacefully assemble in the national forest. There has been an ongoing battle between the Rainbow Family and the Federal Government against signing a permit. The law states that you have to sign a permit for a gathering of 75 or more people. The Rainbow Family has no official leader or leadership who can take responsibility in signing the permit. The Rainbow Family operates on a consensus basis and there has never been consensus to sign a permit. Over the years a number of permits have been signed and have been the determining factor in double gatherings happening which is what happened at this Ocala Rainbow Gathering.
Evidently there was an application signed that stated that the Rainbows would have to provide porta potties. Well the porta potties never arrived. I also heard that the permit was never signed either. The Forestry Officers put up signs stating that we couldn't dig any holes. Including latrines which is the standard operation for disposing of our waste. With them not permitting us to do this is a recipe for a serious health hazard on us and the Forestry officers as well.
I Joshua Hanson of Jesus Kitchen/Nomads Land went down the forestry office and asked for documentation of this ordinance. They didn't have any information and were going to have an officer call me. I tried calling again with no response. So around 15 of us we went down to the forestry headquarters in Prison Uniforms, t-shirts with Let My People Go printed on the back and wearing "Depends diapers". We marched into the office and tried to use the restroom. For the record they don't have a bathroom open to the public. We again asked for documentation on this new no hole digging policy. In protest we did a roadside clean up in front of the forestry office which was trashed I might add.
The following day I was issued a ticket for refusing to fill in our shitter at the Jesus Kitchen. We also let the rest of the gathering know that if anyone was issued a ticket Jesus would pay for it. There would however be a couple conditions. You would have to go into town and clean a public bathroom and or pick up trash. We would also want to inform the neighboring businesses that the Forestry officers actions were going to have an impact on them by not allowing us to dig latrines. .
If we were the boy scouts or an ROTC type group we would not be in court for digging a hole.
If you have anymore questions you can call me at 785-447-0768. If I don't answer text me what media source you are with and your name and I will get back with you asap.
