The book can be interpreted in 2 ways:

1. It reflects how workers under capitalism are treated when they are no longer "useful." Gregor was once who supported the family and the moment he transformed to a bug, they discarded him.

The irony is that when Gregor found himself as an insect, the first thing he thought was "I'm late for work." That's absurd af.

2. From a psychological perspective, Gregor’s transformation can be seen as a metaphor for depression and damaged self-image. His change into an insect reflects not only a physical alteration but also the way he comes to view himself — as unwanted, insignificant, and devoid of value.
