update: everything is going great, the project is almost done, but i need to make sure everything is ok with licensing and i also want to triple check some stuff so there might be a slight delay of like a few days tops (i am still shooting for saturday but yep in case that doesn't happen you now know why)

little update on my linux experience: it’s been pretty great so far and i have been able to run most of the software i need on a daily basis without any issues either natively or with wine, but some proprietary software still doesn’t work/ apparently according to what i read online some of it doesn’t work because of my nvidia graphics card

now: i am not going to change my hardware configuration just to properly run linux and i am not going to completely change workflow after years either, so the best approach (since i do not want to deal with virtual machines with gpu passthrough) is probably the old trick of dual booting with a clean installation of windows stripped from all the slop and tbf when my computer takes like three seconds to reboot it is totally doable

but yeah sadly i can’t just abandon windows once and for all, i have spent a few days trying to do just that but some software simply doesn’t work

some software that i need to use on a daily basis either doesn’t work because of drm or because of nvidia: i can’t and don’t want to change my gpu because i need some nvidia features and i won’t change my workflow since it works well

i am just going to dual boot and use windows for the stuff that simply doesn’t work, it’s not like i have to make a choice if i can just use both

still: my macbook stays winning holy shit it literally is not windows slop but also lets me run all of the commercial software i want just fine

this experience is turning me into EVEN more of an apple fan, incredible

oh yeah also openfx: as a video editor that’s been painful, while davinci is usable most of the commercial video plug-ins are simply non existent on linux and there doesn’t seem to be a way to use wine as a bridge or anything like that

they are available on mac tho and they even run on my apple silicon one lol

tldr: i am trying and it’s been MOSTLY great (especially gaming wise like unironically most games run way better on linux) but proprietary software and especially DRM are a PAIN IN THE ASS to get up ad running and i need to dual boot
