Have you watched the new Backrooms horror movie? 👀 What did you think?

I really like the trend we’re seeing more and more in cinema right now: major studios are starting to work with young creators who didn’t come from the traditional film industry, but grew up on the internet — through YouTube, short horror films, experimental videos, and their own unique visual language.

Backrooms is a perfect example. It started as internet horror and liminal aesthetics, and eventually turned into a major A24 film. And the most interesting part isn’t even the adaptation itself, but the fact that the studio trusted the project to Kane Parsons, the creator of Kane Pixels, who is only 20 years old.

A similar story happened recently with Obsession: a young director, a small budget, a strong idea — and, in the end, a massive box office success. Cases like this show that the industry is genuinely starting to look toward new creators, instead of relying only on endless remakes and franchises.

And honestly, I think that’s really exciting. Young directors often have something that many big studio projects lack: a fresh perspective, strange ideas, bold atmosphere, and a real understanding of what catches the audience’s attention online.

I’d love to see more collaborations like this. Especially in horror, where sometimes one strong idea and the right atmosphere can hit harder than a huge budget.

So, what did you think of the new Backrooms movie? Did it work for you, or were you expecting more?

I was inspired by a viral scene from The Sea Beast and wanted to imagine what it would look like in real life.

Usually, recreating scenes like this is pretty easy. You just upload the original animated clip to Seedance, ask it to remake it in a realistic style using your own character references, and you’re good to go.

But this time, it couldn’t properly preserve the shot composition, so the result was full of artifacts. I ended up splitting the video into two parts and asked ChatGPT to write the prompts for each segment.

By the way, you can upload videos directly to ChatGPT so it can analyze them and understand exactly what you’re working on. Definitely make use of that feature.

I’ll post the guide a bit later I still need to put it together. This video ended up being more involved to make than I expected. 😄
