1950 A Rio Grande Southern RR motor better known as a Galloping Goose, sits on narrow gauge trackage (36 inches) above the town of Ophir in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. The RGS built seven of these units in their Ridgway shops in the 1930's for combined passenger and freight service on their line that extended from Ridgway to Durango, where they would connect with the Denver & Rio Grande Western RR their parent company. The line was discontinued in 1952. In all seven of these Geese were built and all seven have been restored to running condition. Several are on display at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden.
