❗️🇺🇸 Washington, D.C. — During the White House Correspondents' Association dinner at the Washington Hilton on Saturday evening, an armed man attempted to force his way through a security checkpoint toward the main ballroom where President Donald Trump was speaking. President Trump later called the incident an assassination attempt, which led to a brief shootout.

The U.S. Secret Service immediately intervened. The suspect was taken into custody, while the president and other high-ranking officials were rapidly evacuated from the ballroom as shots rang out. One Secret Service agent was struck by gunfire at close range but escaped serious injury thanks to his bulletproof vest.

The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen from Torrance, California. He faces upcoming charges, including assault on a federal officer with a deadly weapon. President Trump was unharmed and later addressed the media from the White House, commending the quick response of his protective detail.

The investigation continues, and the motive remains unknown.
