Efficacious Prayer for the Poor Holy Souls In Purgatory
O Most compassionate Jesus, have mercy on the Souls detained in Purgatory, for whose redemption Thou didst take upon Thyself our nature and endure a bitter death. Mercifully hear their sighs, look with pity upon the tears which they now shed before Thee, and by virtue of Thy Passion, release them from the pains due to their sins. O most merciful Jesus, let Thy Precious Blood reach down into Purgatory and refresh and revive the captive souls who suffer there. Stretch out to them Thy strong right hand, and bring them forth into the place of refreshment, light and peace.
Amen.

DECEMBER 6: THE REAL SANTA CLAUS
Saint Nikolaos of Myra
Bishop
Died: 343
---
St. Nicholas of Myra (or of Bari) was a bishop. He attended the First Council of Nicea where he fought Arianism. He was known for being very charitable. He used to drop coins inside shoes of poor people. This gave rise to the legend of Santa Claus placing gifts inside socks. He also threw a bag of money inside a chimney to help a poor maiden. This have rise to the belief that he enters chimneys. He is the patron of children.
---
I think I might go to a shrine of St. Nicholas someday. This Advent, perhaps?
Santa Claus, please pray for us that we should have a wonderful Christmas! Pray for our children to be happy, our wives merry, and our families loving. Pray for us to have a season of joy surrounding the birth of our Lord Jesus. Pray for us to have a most joyous, miraculous merry Christmas! Amen.

This Feast commemorates the preservation of the Blessed Virgin from the stain of original sin from the first moment of her conception. It originated in the Eastern Church about the 8th century and was celebrated on Dec. 9. In the 11th century it appeared in the Western Church and was first celebrated in England; and in the 14th century, it was included in the calendar of the Universal Church.
The doctrine of the Immaculate Conception was defined by Pope Pius IX on Dec. 8, 1854. This dogma is in accord with the texts of Scripture: โI Will put enmity between you and the woman, between your seed and her seed" (Gen. 3, 15), "Hail, full of grace" (Luke 1, 28) and was clearly understood and accepted by Tradition, the writings of the Fathers and by feasts, observed by the general belief of the faithful long before it was defined.

The Blessed Virgin Mary displayed on the gigantic MSG Sphere in Las Vegas.
But how would we know Christ at all if he had no been born into the world? And how would he be born without a mother? And how could God have allowed himself to be incarnated in the womb of a sinner? And so in Mary we have the perfect Christian. The perfect servent of God by whose immaculate conception and utter devotion to God she was given the gift to bear Christ himself in her womb. This is what was meant when it is said โAs he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, โBlessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!โ But he said, โBlessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!โ It is therefore legitimate to venerate the blessed Virgin and to appreciate her devotion and by her example to draw ourself closer to her son.
Which is why we say โHail Mary (as the Angel Gabriel greeted her, not words of worship) full of Grace (immaculate conception) the Lord is with thee! Blessed art thou among women (she is greater than all other women by having the unique holiness to bear God himself) and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus! Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners (as she can of course do since Christ promised eternal life, which his mother surely received upon death. The intercession of the Virgin Mary is powerful and we can see example of this during the wedding feast in Cana) now and at the hour of our death.โ
