GDP Growth Forecasts 2026: BRICS vs G7 🌍📊📈

India Overtakes Japan as 4th Largest Economy – 1 January 2026

On 31 December 2025, the Indian government announced that India has become the world’s fourth largest economy, with a GDP of $4.18 trillion, surpassing Japan.

India is projected to overtake Germany, current 3rd largest economy by 2030 with a GDP of $7.3 trillion. Real GDP grew 8.2% in Q2 2025-26, driven by strong private consumption, stable inflation, and improving financial conditions.

For the commodity industry, this is a major development. Rising economic growth means higher demand for sugar, soybeans, edible oils, energy, and other essential commodities.

Exporters and traders can expect uptrending orders, while domestic supply chains will become more crucial. Strong urban consumption and credit availability provide a stable environment for long-term contracts and investment.

International agencies such as the IMF, World Bank, and Moody’s project India’s growth above 6% through 2026.

Silver is the clear winner of 2025 so far, soaring +141% and taking the top spot among all major commodities 🥇
Gold (+64%) and Copper (+41%) follow, confirming strong demand for precious and industrial metals.

Meanwhile, energy and some agricultural commodities remain under pressure, showing mixed performance this year.

💡 Key takeaway: Metals are outperforming, making commodities a sector to watch closely in 2025.

🌍 Fastest-Growing Economies in 2025 (IMF preliminary data)

The top three are oil-exporting countries — even with low oil prices. Oil remains a unique growth driver: it can boost economies in crisis or with weak institutions. An oil well is a money-printing machine, whether in the desert, offshore, or in Siberian swamps.

Libya and South Sudan prove this point. Notably, Sudan, which has no oil, is absent from the high-growth list. Similar oil-led recovery stories were seen earlier in Iraq, and before that in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan — now the most successful post-Soviet economies.

Libya’s economy is again growing at double-digit rates, despite political fragmentation — though IMF figures here should be treated with caution.

The second tier includes countries following the Asian port-city / trade hub model. Europe’s “Singapore” is Ireland, a long-time fast-growing base for global corporations.

🛢️ Oil is still capital in its most concentrated form.

🇻🇪 Venezuela’s Oil Reserves: A $17 Trillion Geopolitical Shock

Proven oil reserves in Venezuela stand at ~303 billion barrels. According to Donald Trump, these reserves are now “under U.S. control.”

With oil prices trading around $57 per barrel, Venezuela’s total oil reserves are valued at approximately $17.3 trillion.

To put this into perspective:
👉 This amount exceeds the combined GDP of all countries in the world, except for the U.S. and China.

A pretty solid “addition” to U.S. economic influence — and achieved in roughly 12 hours.

Asia remains a central destination for Venezuelan oil. China continues to be a major buyer, even as its purchases declined in 2024 compared to the previous year.

Throughout 2024 and into 2025, the United States has remained an importer of Venezuela’s oil under a special license allowing Chevron to operate in the country despite existing sanctions.

At the same time, India significantly increased its intake, reflecting its long-standing strategy of securing competitively priced crude to support domestic refining demand.

In 2024, India imported an average of 63,000 barrels per day of Venezuelan oil, a five-fold increase from 2023. Indian refiners, including Reliance Industries, benefited from lower-cost supplies, according to local reporting.

🇮🇳 India Sets a New Record

India has overtaken China to become the world’s largest rice producer, with output reaching 150.18 million tons, according to India’s Minister of Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

For comparison, China’s rice production stands at 145.28 million tons.

This milestone was achieved thanks to major progress in high-yield rice varieties. India is now also the leading rice exporter in global markets, strengthening its position in international food trade.
