Russia has become a major buyer of Chinese blueberries thanks to record harvests and fast logistics.

In April 2026, China exported blueberries and cranberries worth USD 24.4 million, with Russia and Hong Kong accounting for more than USD 4 million of total purchases.

A record harvest in Yunnan Province, which has made China the world’s largest blueberry producer, combined with the expansion of rail logistics, allows fresh berries to be delivered quickly at prices of around USD 7 per kg.

For Russian importers, this means a stable supply of fresh blueberries at competitive prices and an opportunity to reduce dependence on traditional suppliers from South America.

🇵🇰 Pakistan: The Quiet Giant of Russian Grain Imports

While Egypt and Türkiye get most of the attention, Pakistan has become one of the key destinations for Russian wheat.

📊 In 2024, Pakistan imported Russian grain worth $631 million, including $379 million of wheat.

🌾 Russia now holds a dominant position in Pakistan’s wheat import market, supported by strong demand from a population of over 240 million people and a persistent domestic wheat deficit.

🚢 Despite longer logistics routes and higher freight costs to Karachi, stable demand continues to support growing trade volumes.

🇮🇳🇯🇵 Japan Suspends Mango Imports from India

Japan has suspended imports of Indian mangoes after violations were detected at a Vapor Heat Treatment (VHT) facility in Uttar Pradesh. The treatment process failed to eliminate fruit fly larvae, a key phytosanitary requirement.

🚫 Affected varieties:
• Alphonso
• Kesar
• Langra
• Banganapalli
• Chausa
• Mallika

📅 The restriction applies to shipments certified after March 25, 2026.

📉 Impact on exporters:
• Peak export season disrupted (April–June)
• Air freight costs surged from ₹250–350/kg to ₹580–590/kg
• Nepal has also restricted imports, citing excessive pesticide residues

🔍 Indian exporters are now expected to intensify efforts to diversify exports and find alternative markets in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
