🌍🌾 El Niño is returning — and agricultural markets are already assessing the risks.
The probability of El Niño developing by Q4 2026 has reached 93%. Potential impacts include drought in Australia’s wheat regions, weaker monsoons in India, and risks to Brazil’s soybean crop.
India is the key market to watch. Weather agencies expect the 2026 monsoon at just 92% of the long-term average — one of the weakest forecasts in 26 years. With most of its 121 million tons of wheat consumed domestically, any production shortfall could quickly turn India into a major importer.
For Russian exporters, this could create new opportunities. Increased Indian demand for wheat and oilseeds may boost demand for Black Sea grain exports.

Russia’s Fuel Gap: Belarus and Kazakhstan Can’t Close It
Russia has reportedly lost around 700,000 barrels per day of refining capacity.
Belarus has sharply increased gasoline exports to Russia, but even at full capacity can replace only a small share of the missing volumes. Its refineries also rely largely on Russian crude.
Kazakhstan cannot provide significant fuel supplies due to export restrictions aimed at protecting domestic demand. Its main contribution is helping redirect crude oil flows and easing logistics pressure.
Key Takeaway
Both countries can provide limited support, but neither can offset a refining shortfall of this magnitude. The solution will need to come primarily from Russia’s own refining and logistics sector.

✈️ India May Buy Up to 200 Russian Aircraft
India is reportedly considering the purchase of up to 200 Russian-made regional aircraft, including the SJ-100 and Il-114-300, to improve connectivity between smaller cities and regional airports.
The discussions may also include technology transfer and local production under the Make in India program.
If approved, the deal could boost India’s regional aviation sector while reducing dependence on Western aircraft suppliers. However, certification, maintenance, and sanctions-related challenges remain key hurdles.

Russia has become a major buyer of Chinese blueberries thanks to record harvests and fast logistics.
In April 2026, China exported blueberries and cranberries worth USD 24.4 million, with Russia and Hong Kong accounting for more than USD 4 million of total purchases.
A record harvest in Yunnan Province, which has made China the world’s largest blueberry producer, combined with the expansion of rail logistics, allows fresh berries to be delivered quickly at prices of around USD 7 per kg.
For Russian importers, this means a stable supply of fresh blueberries at competitive prices and an opportunity to reduce dependence on traditional suppliers from South America.
