Cargo rejected before discharge.
But the cargo isn’t the problem.

We see this often in shipments to Egypt, Lebanon, Syria:

Vessel arrives.
Hatches opened.
Samples taken — from the surface.

👉 What’s really sampled?
Dust. Fines. Impurities accumulated during loading.

Result?
“Off-spec” claims
Discharge delayed
Disputes started

But the truth is simple:
Surface samples ≠ real cargo quality.

✔️ Proper sampling must be from depth (min. 2m)
✔️ Representative across the lot
✔️ Under supervision
✔️ In line with GAFTA standards

Otherwise, you’re testing the top layer — not the cargo.

This is where many unjustified claims begin.
And where proper control makes all the difference.

🇷🇺 Russia shifts to national currencies in trade

Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk announced that Russia has effectively completed the transition to settlements in national currencies with CIS countries, the EAEU, and China.

Key figures:
▪️ 91% of trade within the CIS is now in national currencies
▪️ 93% within the EAEU
▪️ 95% in Russia–China trade

According to Overchuk, this shift reduces dependence on Western financial infrastructure and strengthens the resilience of cross-border settlements.

The transition, which took place over the past four years, marks a major structural change in regional trade flows.

🚢 Arctic Route vs Suez: China–Europe Shipping Time Cut in Half

Russia’s antitrust authority has approved a deal between Rosatom and DP World to create a joint logistics venture based on FESCO.

📦 Key details:
• New entity: “Global Logistics LLC”
• 92.5% of FESCO’s parent (DVMП) to be contributed
• Ownership split: 51% Russia / 49% DP World
• DP World stake valued at RUB 145–160 billion
• Final approval pending

🌍 Why it matters:
Access to the Northern Sea Route could:
→ reduce China–Europe transit time to ~20 days
→ vs 45–60 days via the Suez Canal

📊 Market impact:
• Arctic corridor emerging as a viable alternative to Suez
• Faster cargo turnover and reduced transit times
• Strengthened role of Russia in global logistics
• DP World gains access to a strategic Arctic trade lane

🪴 Russia Strengthens Its Fertilizer Position in Latin America

Amid China’s export restrictions, Latin American countries — Argentina, Mexico, and Colombia — are turning more actively to Russian fertilizers.

📉 China has limited exports to protect its domestic market, restricting phosphates and nitrogen-potassium products, creating supply pressure in the region.

📈 Russia, holding an 18% share of the global fertilizer market, is expanding rapidly:
• $839M in exports to Argentina, Mexico, and Colombia in 2024
• +20% YoY growth in Latin America

⚠️ Key risks: logistics challenges and potential political pressure from the U.S.

💡 Bottom line: Latin America is becoming a key growth market for Russian fertilizer exports.

🌍 Hidden Risk in Global Agriculture

Markets may be underestimating the long-term impact of disruptions in the Middle East. Many traders still expect a quick resolution — but farmers are already adapting.

🚜 Facing rising fuel and fertilizer costs, producers in the US, Europe, and Australia are shifting toward oilseeds (soybean, rapeseed, sunflower) — the only crops that remain profitable under current conditions.

📉 As a result:
• Grain and vegetable planting is being reduced
• Some fields may be left unused due to high input costs
• Oilseed production is set to surge — likely leading to oversupply and lower prices

⚠️ The real risk: a sharp drop in global food production outside oilseeds — which could trigger a spike in food prices as early as this autumn.

⭐️ Russia and China Plan Cross-Border Hydrogen Corridor

Russia and China are exploring the creation of a cross-border hydrogen transport corridor. A memorandum has been signed by RT-Business Development (part of Rostec) together with Chinese investors.

The project envisions localized hydrogen production facilities along major highways, combined with a network of refueling infrastructure. This would enable hydrogen-powered freight transport between the two countries. No official timeline has been announced yet.

Using hydrogen as fuel for heavy-duty trucks could significantly reduce CO₂ emissions, extend driving range, allow fast refueling, and ensure stable operation in harsh climates such as Siberia and the Russian Far East.

▶️ According to Gruzopotok, China already operates five dedicated hydrogen corridors with over 1,000 hydrogen trucks in use. For Russia, this would be a pioneering initiative.
