🚛 Russian Trucks Begin Leaving the “Iranian Trap”

Truck traffic at the Iran–Azerbaijan border has started to recover after several days of a complete blockade. Following negotiations between Moscow, Tehran and Baku, the first Russian truck convoys have crossed the border.

📊 Current situation:

150+ trucks crossed the border since yesterday
~1,350 trucks still waiting in line
Astara checkpoint remains the main congestion point

The crisis began March 5, when Azerbaijan blocked truck traffic from Iran, including transit cargo, after a drone attack on an airport in Nakhchivan, which Baku blamed on Iran.

⚠️ Many trucks carry perishable goods (fruits, vegetables, nuts), and delays increase the risk of major losses for carriers.

🌍 Russia’s Foreign Trade in 2025: Ruble Hits Record, Exports Hold, Imports Nearly Unchanged

The Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy has released its 2025 foreign trade monitoring report. Key takeaway: exports declined only slightly, imports remained almost unchanged, and the share of the ruble in settlements reached a historic high.

Key figures:
Exports: $418.3B (-3.7% vs 2024)
Imports: $279B (-1.4% vs 2024)
Share of ruble in settlements: 54% — a record high due to reduced use of other currencies.

Exports:
— The main reason for the decline was lower oil prices. Exports of mineral products fell to $225.3B (-14.8%), with their share in total exports dropping to 53.9%, the lowest in recent years.
— The decline was partly offset by growth in other sectors:
Chemicals: +21.6%
Metals and metal products: +17.4% (share approaching 18%)
Machinery, equipment & transport: $29.6B (+26.6%)

Imports:
— Overall imports changed little but remain 4.9% below the pre-sanctions level of 2021.
Machinery and equipment imports: $135.6B (-7.7%), share fell to 48.6%.
Food and agricultural imports: $43.4B (+15%).
— Other categories showed minimal changes, reflecting restrained domestic demand despite a stronger ruble.

Trade partners:
🇨🇳 China remains Russia’s largest partner: 27% of exports and 39% of imports. Imports from China fell to $101.8B (-11.7%), mainly due to lower car imports after higher recycling fees.
🇪🇺 The European Union continues losing share: 7.4% of Russian exports and 12% of imports. Exports to the EU dropped to $31.1B (-21%) due to lower energy purchases.

Late-2025 trends:
— Imports began rising again in December, possibly due to the stronger ruble (or a short-term spike).
— Exports showed very slow growth, driven mainly by price factors, while physical volumes may have declined under sanctions.

🇺🇿 Uzbekistan Tightens Controls on Fruit and Vegetable Exports

Uzbekistan is introducing a Risk Management System (RMS) after multiple complaints from importing countries, including Russia, over product quality and export documentation.

☕️ Brazilian Coffee Shipments to Russia Hit 6-Month Low

In February 2026, Brazil exported just 2,800 tons of coffee to Russia worth $20.3 million, according to Brazilian customs data analyzed by RIA Novosti.

1.8× lower than in January 2026
2.6× lower than in February 2025

🌍 The biggest buyers of Brazilian coffee remain:
Germany, Italy, the United States, Belgium, and Japan.

🌱 Brazil Cuts Fertilizer Imports from Russia in February 2026

Brazil reduced fertilizer imports from Russia in February 2026, according to RIA Novosti citing Brazil’s statistics service.

Imports totaled $152.4 million, 1.7× lower year-on-year compared with $258.7 million in February 2025, the lowest level since April 2021.

Main categories:
• Nitrogen fertilizers — $45M
• Compound fertilizers — $63.9M

📉 The drop may be linked to higher fertilizer prices. At the start of the year on FOB Baltic terms:
• Urea rose 10–12%
• Ammonium nitrate rose 19%

Higher prices reduce affordability for farmers, pushing them to cut purchases or seek cheaper suppliers.

🌍 Tensions in the Middle East and related logistics disruptions may also have affected global supply chains and prices, impacting Brazilian imports.

Despite the decline, Russia remained Brazil’s largest fertilizer supplier in 2025, with exports rising 8% to a record $4B.

🇷🇺🇧🇷 Russia boosts imports of Brazilian beef for processing

In February 2026, beef imports from Brazil to Russia jumped 4x year-on-year to 13,400 tons worth $68.8 million. Russia became the 4th largest buyer of Brazilian beef after China, United States and Chile.

Most shipments consist of cheap cuts used for processing — mainly for sausages and minced meat. Higher-quality beef is exported to other markets, especially China, where premium cuts fetch better prices.

Russia’s domestic beef sector still faces high costs, declining cattle numbers and reliance on dairy herds, keeping demand for low-cost imported raw material stable.

Russia also imports pork, poultry and offal from Brazil, but in smaller volumes.

📈 This is:
• 1.4× higher than the same period in 2025
• Up from 1,600 tons last year

All shipments undergo strict quality and safety control: samples are tested in laboratories before being cleared for the Russian market. No violations were found — all products were approved for sale.
