Jester's second act
Aside from any environmental effects, and purely based on its morality, I don't mind people generating pics with ai bots But few conditions and rules have to be set in place first, which i don't think they're too far anyway. (People and specially big companies…
These seem SEEM simple but ai is much bigger than just “consenting rights” and labeling stuff as ai generated.

First off with consenting rights, that doesn’t stop people from using other people’s artwork. I doubt there will ever be a law to make it illegal at all. Any laws going to make ai illegal is gonna be towards deepfakes. Also a very VERY big majority of artists do not like ai and will never allow their art to be fed to ai and yet it still happens. Why? Because ai users don’t care about that.

The labelling ai generated stuff? Yeah that doesn’t work on all platforms. Pinterest as an example labels actual human stuff as ai sometimes when it’s not. Not even those systems are correctly functioning.

And for other points bigger than these two, as you mentioned, ai uses from stuff beforehand. Art BEFOREHAND. It takes from MULTIPLE artists but where do the funds for those artists go? Nowhere. It’s stolen art.

Also if I remember correctly you stated you don’t think ai will steal jobs but it very much has 😭 If I had a nickel for everytime I saw a reel or post of an animator or artist getting laid off from their company because their company preferred to us ai and fired employees, I’d have more than 6. Now that’s just the people who talk about it, genuinely imagine it on a larger scale. Ai IS a threat to jobs and WILL take jobs away and HAS started to take them away… if it wasn’t for public outrage of people finding Ai ads from big companies cheap and SOMETIMES even boycotting, then at this point every single company would’ve used Ai by now. If there aren’t people literally protesting to how it’s stealing jobs, it looks tacky, cheap and it’s wasting water, then Ai would’ve taken much more jobs than before.

I’m not really sure what major you have jester but for example someone like me who genuinely wants to pick art and graphic design as a major, go to uni and get a job in that field, Ai is a MASSIVE blow to me. It’s terrifying thinking you probably won’t be able to make a living off of doing the thing you like seriously and not just as a hobby..

Scotty, but he knows
But at the same time many other jobs were invented
I’m sorry but you can’t compare the industrial revolution with modern day ai because these two things are VERY different 😭😭
Modern day ai has gotten to a point where it can consciously attack another ai company and do orders without the need of human intervention… it goes far beyond art because ai robots are also growing and with more advancements to them it can spread to fields much bigger than just art
Like I fear ai goes far beyond art. Right NOW it’s about art, but in few years time where they keep on advancing and improving them, it will go to medical fields and construction fields. I really hate Elon musk but I genuinely believe the guy when he says the future will literally just be robots because he isn’t wrong
Scotty, but he knows
And honestly ofc I'm not a fan of whatever that is happening My point is that protesting against it's "existence" is stupid since it's already existing
Of course we can’t protest against its existence I mean ai in itself has existed before our last few years, but then again it’s gotten to a point where we can’t really take any necessary measures against it because we’re too deep in. Most companies are too selfish to do anything that improves ai for humans so we’re just kind of in the middle
Also a heads up but this entire convo isn’t meant to be in an attacking tone or anything it’s just having a discussion*
🤝2
Scotty, but he knows
And about this, why not? Humans have gone through many many big changes in history but ai feels different cus its attacking consciousness, the only thing that has never been threatened to be in the hands of any other living thing and that's terrifying. But…
Imo it’s easy to say that now but I personally feel like this “revolution” is just gonna be a mean to our demise 😭.. I just PERSONALLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYY cannot compare the industrial revolution to ai simply because ai is just far too advanced and when it takes jobs then it TAKES jobs, it doesn’t create new things for people.
Jester's second act
Even if ai COMPLETELY change our world, we still build our lives and society around it. It might be totally different from what we have now but it won't suddenly make humans stop existing
Of course it won’t, I agree it’ll take a really really long time for the bigger things to even set in and yes we will survive let’s say for the next few years but when it’s environmentally related?? We are MUCH sooner to die😭
Jester's second act
But also we have to circle back to my other point again. What's a practical solution you can offer? Aside from mindlessly hating it or just accepting its harms and waiting for our supposed dooms day
The thing is as I’ve said before, we CAN find ways to control it sure but again AS MENTIONED, many large companies are too selfish to let most of these things pass. So we’re kind of stuck in the middle between hating and having a solution. Like the solutions you offered sure I can agree with them but there’s quote un quote plot holes in them which makes me believe that we can’t ever have a direct and quick solution for it without bumping into problems. So whatever solutions I give for example, there will be things to counter them from the bigger companies pov. So nothing will truly ever combat it
Scotty, but he knows
PERSONALY it think this "our environment is getting destroyed" has not happend now and using ai as an excuse is fitting for now
I’m not sure if you’ve seen data centers being placed in towns and taking the water supply away and having extremely blinding lights where they have to kick people out of homes but those are all environmental AND human concerns are they not? So I’m pretty sure it HAS been happening 😭… also ai data centers use massive carbon emissions that contribute to global warming so-
Jester's second act
Imo, you're thinking of it way too pessimistically and not considering the possibility that we can actually make change at all.
Thing is I totally agree that I think of it pessimistically and that’s only because I’ve never actually seen any solution work so far… maybe it will in the next few years sure but until any small effort to improve it immediately gets shut down by larger companies then I personally don’t believe there’s anything to really combat it 😭 again if a genuinely good solution actually does happen and get used in the future then I can come back and say yall were right, but so far that hasn’t happen so it’s kind of hard for me to NOT think pessimistically about it
