Iranian = nationality.

i think people just picked up persian as irani in general. people usually use a mix of both persian and irani.
yes when people make it racist and all its..weird. we're all iranian.
i think people can identify with the broader national and cultural label of "persian," especially when used in an international context to mean "from the iranian civilization."
