This whole area was once a lawn, chewed up by a local beetle infestation - we installed 2 large and very accessible elevated vegetable garden beds, and later on in the season the main lawn was re-sown with bee enhancing micro-clover, and then the whole strip along the sidewalk was planted with a butterfly and beneficial pollinator wildflower blend

In order to make your home a bit more in tune with the planet + food secure, you don't have to do anything over the top! A few small projects go a long way towards you being a regenerative land owner πŸŒ³πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎπŸ‘

In the modern world we consider water lifeless and inert, but as our wisdom and knowledge grow we will see it to be a living, energy rich, almost MAGICAL substance πŸŒŠβ›²πŸ’§
This forested canyon holds a special place in my heart - it's the first place I found a Lion's Mane mushroom
πŸ”πŸ§ πŸ„
Still was overjoyed to find this species despite it being far too gone and mushy (pun intended) to harvest or ingest. Perhaps 10+ days earlier and it would have served up several batches of Lion's Mane jalapeno poppers or something creative like that πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³
Felt great after the winter to get out and do some small harvesting of nettles.. Which have an amazing aroma (if you've picked nettles before, you know the deeply nourishing smell they give off while harvesting)
~
You'll see I dug up a bit of the nettle root as well, which has an incredible tonic effect for men: prostate health, protecting healthy testosterone levels, reducing hay fever/seasonal allergies, and even benefiting heart health..
~
Whenever you are out foraging, if you are considering harvesting roots, be extremely selective and take a very limited amount, OR just buy sustainably harvested extracts from companies you trust. Many plants that are great herbal tonics provide important ecological functions and there is a big list of over-harvested plants that are on the verge of extinction! Forage mindfully πŸ™

The roots here will be used in a blend of herbs to protect against environmental toxins, improve cortisol levels, and benefit optimal hormone levels - the leaves got made into a peso πŸŒΏπŸŒ°πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³
Here's the nettle pesto I made last night, and the washed nettle roots which have been dried in the oven overnight. They will be chopped and then shredded up in a coffee grinder, ready to add to an herbal tea formula which I'll post about soon 🍡
Got some amazing smelling Sarsaparilla root at the local herb shop the other day and now experimenting with making some "rootbeer" style healing root tonic teas 🍺🌿
Here's the wild-harvested nettle root which is now shredded and ready for tea making. Mixes great with burdock, dandelion, and sarsaparilla root for a tasty tonic!
3 days, 3 giant cleanups of a sensitive ecosystem! Estimated roughly 1000+ pounds of trash hauled from the river and surrounding forest each day..
