This year I've done more fitness activity and movement cumulatively than I have in many years, also more river and cold plunges than I have in many years, so it's time to continue this trend and level up a bit..

My grandmother has told me stories from Finland about my great grandfather, whom during the winter time, would exit the sauna, and go lay down in the snow and roll around, rubbing his skin with handfuls of icy powder (just imagine the burn ❄πŸ”₯). He lived into his mid-nineties, befriending the icy cold, the sauna heat, plucking and eating fresh carrots from their garden, and working until his last few months of life

In Finland there is a concept known as "sisu" which roughly translates into stubbornness or vigor, toughness. In this modern world of convenience and comfort, we could use a little more sisu

So in honor of my roots and cultivating this innate sisu, I'm gearing up to start doing late fall/winter cold exposure (river or snow) a little bit at a time - which will be a solid LEVEL UP from my current practice of spring/summer cold swimming, cold showers etc

Have you heard of the town of Todmorden? One of the most self-sufficient towns in the world, has gardens at the police station, fruit trees at the city hall, berry bushes along some streets, a "pollinator avenue" and edible installations at 40 different public areas. This is the type of future we can create together!
One of the least well known edible trees - grown as an ornamental in the Pacific Northwest..

This beautiful tree is from Japan, and produces edible pulp that tastes a bit like a less sweet version of mango and apple. The seeds are not edible, so the best way I found to eat them is to break the fruit in half, squeeze out and eat the pulp and make sure to spit the seeds out! While this fruit isn't completely ready for eating off the tree like other edibles, and does require a bit more work, it's an excellent snack if you pick a big handful on the go 😁

This is just one example of a way we can still keep urban and home landacapes looking nice and ornamental, yet are very functional and overflowing with edible plants 🏑

Most of the hike you are bathed in negative ions which diffuse from the creek and its many series of cascades and waterfalls that have sculpted and carved some very majestic formations in the sandstone canyons..

IF I can find a safe way to get down to some of the pools, cold swimming would be excellent.. Just need to find a sauna ♨️
