Above is a project from last spring - which were the two veggie garden boxes in the back, this year after the client had some retaining wall work done, I planted a few perennials she had on site such as hibiscus, a palm tree, and a few others, and filled the area with a butterfly garden/pollinator-friendly flower mix. It's almost October and the garden is still in amazing shape, feeding all the bees of numerous varieties!
September 27th: World Rivers Day!
~
Many streams, rivers, and waterways around the world are endangered and at risk of being lost entirely to erosion, pollution, trash, and urbanization
~
What will you do on this upcoming day to celebrate, honor, and protect a local river or stream (or any body of water) near you?
~
Do an ocean cleanup, a river cleanup, or take a walk near a local waterway and experience gratitude for all the ways water gifts us with life, then tag it with #worldriversday and share it on your social media pages!
You can grow more stuff than you thought possible in your climate! With a little bit of planning and care, these small lemon and lime trees are thriving in Vancouver. They will need to come indoors most likely November though, and go back outside perhaps Feb/March
More data rolling regarding the next big grand solar minimum! Major food disruptions, record cold weather events, record low sunspot activity based on 400 years of solar observations
Friends in the Northern Hemisphere, you can still get vitamin D this time of year! A handful of solid days left (speaking from my location 49° latitude) to soak up the noontime rays to absorb vitamin D through your skin and stock up for the winter season! Go get it! Literally no one is going out this time of year only wearing shorts, or a bikini etc. It's a completely untapped health resource.. Currently with my app, the window is only from about 11:07am-2:07pm to convert sunlight into vitamin D. So next few days if you get the opportunity, try to get perhaps 45 minutes or more of good sun exposure and your health and vitality will thank you 😊
An amazing read for humans who want to cultivate more stability and calm in these rapidly shifting times ‴️

Missing this summer time forest-bathing! Here is a little snippet of me recording a first person view of my barefoot hiking experience in the beautiful mountains of the Pacific Northwest
No harvest is too small πŸ¦ͺπŸ„
Who's ready for the snow? With all the lockdown madness, collective fear around health, and general disruption in daily life, it's never been more important to get connected to nature and one's innate vitality and power

Regardless of what perspective you hold on this year's current global situation, it's always fruitful to supercharge your health and vigor!
~
This year I've done more fitness activity and movement cumulatively than I have in many years, also more river and cold plunges than I have in many years, so it's time to continue this trend and level up a bit..
~
My grandmother has told me stories from Finland about my great grandfather, whom during the winter time, would exit the sauna, and go lay down in the snow and roll around, rubbing his skin with handfuls of icy powder (just imagine the burn ❄πŸ”₯). He lived into his mid-nineties, befriending the icy cold, the sauna heat, plucking and eating fresh carrots from their garden, and working until his last few months of life
~
In Finland there is a concept known as "sisu" which roughly translates into stubbornness or vigor, toughness. In this modern world of convenience and comfort, we could use a little more sisu
~
So in honor of my roots and cultivating this innate sisu, I'm gearing up to start doing late fall/winter cold exposure (river or snow) a little bit at a time - which will be a solid LEVEL UP from my current practice of spring/summer cold swimming, cold showers etc
~
