Calls for UK gambling ombudsman increase as player RG lawsuits rise
The UK is witnessing a surge in player litigation, prompting renewed calls for the establishment of a national gambling ombudsman. This move was initially proposed in the UK government's white paper in April 2023, aiming to address consumer complaints related to social responsibility breaches, gambling harm, and safer gambling.
Despite the government's commitment to launching the ombudsman within a year, progress has been slow. Dispute resolution providers handle approximately 2,000 consumer complaints annually, highlighting the pressing need for an independent adjudicator.
The Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS) has offered to fulfill the ombudsman role, emphasizing its extensive experience and readiness to provide fair and impartial dispute resolution.
Law firms, such as Ellis Jones Solicitors, have witnessed a rise in cases related to problem gambling, with many clients seeking redress for gambling losses. However, avenues for recourse are limited, underscoring the necessity for structural reform.
Industry stakeholders, including the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), are collaborating with the government to expedite the establishment of the ombudsman. They stress the importance of improving customer redress and addressing the growing complexity of player claim cases.
As the gambling industry grapples with these challenges, experts emphasize the need for proactive measures to identify and mitigate problematic gambling behavior. By implementing robust monitoring systems, operators can safeguard both players and themselves from potential disputes.
While the path to establishing a national gambling ombudsman remains uncertain, industry leaders recognize the urgency of addressing consumer complaints and ensuring a fair and transparent resolution process.

Navigating Nigeria's Online Gambling Surge Amid Regulatory Challenges
Nigeria's burgeoning online gambling market is poised for remarkable growth, fueled by a youthful population and increasing internet penetration. With projections estimating gross gaming revenue (GGR) to reach β¬675.1m by 2025, the country's potential to rival South Africa's gaming industry is evident.
However, regulatory hurdles pose significant challenges to Nigeria's gambling landscape. Disputes between federal and state regulators have created a complex regulatory environment, hindering the industry's growth potential. The ongoing legal battle over licensing requirements further exacerbates the situation, leaving operators in limbo.
Despite these challenges, industry experts remain optimistic about Nigeria's gambling market. The rise of international brands entering the market, coupled with advancements in technology and fintech, bodes well for the industry's future. Increased collaboration between regulators at both federal and state levels is seen as crucial to overcoming regulatory obstacles and unleashing the industry's full potential.
Innovative strategies, such as expanding into the casino sector and cracking down on illegal operators, are key to sustaining growth and ensuring a safe and regulated gambling environment. With concerted efforts from stakeholders and regulators, Nigeria's gambling industry is poised to thrive and cement its position as a leading market in Africa.

EvenBet Gaming unveils two innovative features designed to enhance the security and fairness of online poker rooms: Reshuffle and Cut the Deck. These features provide powerful tools to combat fraud and ensure a level playing field for all players.
Fight Fraud with the Reshuffle Feature
The Reshuffle feature is aimed at thwarting dishonest activities in your poker room. When activated, this feature shuffles all folded hole cards back into the deck, allowing them to be dealt to other players or appear as community cards. This dynamic card dealing process, which occurs in real-time, complicates the strategies employed by cheaters.
Key benefits of the Reshuffle feature:
π² Enhanced Security: By reintroducing folded cards into the deck, it becomes significantly harder for cheaters to predict the outcome of the game.
π² Versatile Application: The feature can be enabled when creating each table and is also available in tournament settings.
π² Strategic Disruption: This mechanism disrupts the advantage gained by players sharing information about their cards (colluding) and hinders bot functionality.
For optimal protection in tournament settings, we recommend using the Reshuffle feature in combination with the option to hide cards until the playerβs turn. The Reshuffle feature is currently available in Holdβem and Omaha poker.
Empower Players with the Cut the Deck Feature
To further enhance the authenticity of your poker room, we introduce the Cut the Deck feature. This simulates the traditional deck cut found in offline play, giving players a greater sense of control and fairness.
How Cut the Deck works:
π² Pre-Flop Control: Before any actions take place on the pre-flop, the current player on the dealer position has the option to cut the deck.
π² Cut Position: The dealer selects a Cut Position, and the cards from the first to this position are moved to the bottom of the deck before dealing.
π² Universal Compatibility: This option is supported in all types of poker games and is available at cash tables in web, desktop and mobile clients.
These innovative features, Reshuffle and Cut the Deck, are designed not only to fight fraud but also to build player trust by providing a more secure and transparent gaming environment.
Enhance your poker roomβs integrity and offer your players the fairest game possible with EvenBet Gamingβs latest feature updates. Get the details by contacting our managers.
