The Netherlands saw a significant rise in self-excluded players from gambling, with numbers doubling from 30,806 to 60,902 between January 2023 and January 2024. In total, 76,000 individuals self-excluded during 2023, although most did so for periods lasting less than a year. Of the new exclusions in 2023, around 20,000 ended automatically during the year, while approximately 26,000 players chose to terminate their exclusion periods themselves, leaving nearly 61,000 still registered with the Netherlandsβ Cruks self-exclusion system by the year's end.
When opting for self-exclusion, Dutch gamblers can choose durations ranging from a minimum of six months to 'for life' periods of 99 years. In 2023, there was a notable decrease in customers choosing the minimum six-month period, with only 21.8% opting for it compared to 35% in 2022. This trend was accompanied by a significant increase in the average duration of self-exclusion chosen, rising from 13 years in 2022 to 22 years and eight months in 2023.
Licensed operators in the Netherlands are required to check new sign-ups against the Cruks register before allowing customers to play. The number of checks surged to 40.3 million per day in December 2023, up from 31 million per day in January.
Cruks was the primary reason for public contact with the Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA) in 2023. The KSA received 5,534 contacts from the public during the year, compared to 3,999 in 2022. Of these, 3,873 enquiries were related to the Cruks self-exclusion register, highlighting its significance. The surge in Cruks-related enquiries was attributed to adjustments made to the register and its website, including the introduction of an eight-day cooling off period to prevent impulsive decision-making for players seeking removal from the register.

The aim is to create a group of regulators from various countries to standardize criteria for updating regulations and address deficiencies in countries lacking constitutional support to monopolize games of chance, as Colombia does.
In his presentation, HincapiΓ© also highlighted Coljuegos' efforts against the black market and its contributions to health services. He shared that in 2023 alone, Coljuegos transferred close to COP 1.4 trillion ($365.8 million) to health services, emphasizing Colombia's leadership in gaming regulation and revenue generation.
