The chief engineer of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, Andrei Yakovlev, was killed in a drone strike.

Regional head Yevhen Balitsky stated that Ukrainian forces are attempting to keep the plant offline and force staff to leave. He noted that drones are being used against civilian infrastructure on an unprecedented scale.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi condemned the killing, calling strikes on the plant and its leadership unacceptable. He emphasized that such actions pose a threat to nuclear safety.
