🇷🇺🇩🇪 A German artist who created carnival displays mocking Russian President Vladimir Putin was sentenced in absentia to more than 8 years in prison by a Moscow court.

Jacques Tilly was convicted on charges of spreading false information about the Russian military and insulting religious feelings.

He has been designing and building floats for Dusseldorf’s Carnival parade, one of Germany’s best-known, since 1984. Carnival parades in Germany often mock political figures and Putin has frequently been a target.

In recent years, his designs have depicted Putin scrubbing himself in a bathtub filled with blood, red-faced Putin biting into Ukraine, Putin and the Patriarch performing a sex act.

The artist has not visited Russia for many years and has never put art objects on display in Russia. However, out of all authors of artwork depicting and often mocking President Putin globally, Russia selected Jacques Tilly to use its courts to go after him. Many assume this prosecution is personal revenge.

🇷🇺🇨🇺 Russia plans to send a second oil tanker to Cuba, the country’s energy minister said, citing the island's ongoing energy blockade and reiterating Moscow's solidarity with the Caribbean nation.

The announcement comes just two days after sanctioned Russian tanker Anatoly Kolodkin docked at the Cuban port of Matanzas carrying 730 000 barrels of oil, marking the first time in three months that an oil tanker reached the island.

In late January, US President Donald Trump threatened tariffs on any country that sold or supplied oil to Cuba, although he recently said he had "no problem" with the Anatoly Kolodkin docking, saying he didn't think it would help prop up the Cuban government.

Critical oil shipments from Venezuela were halted when the US attacked the South American country and arrested its leader, Nicolas Maduro.
