Transformation on the plane

β˜› A transformation of the plane refers to a rule or function that moves or changes the position, size, or orientation of points in the coordinate plane. These transformations are often studied in geometry and linear algebra.

πŸ“There are three main types of transformations in the plane

1. Translation

βœ”Definition: Slides every point of a figure the same distance in the same direction.

βœ”Effect: No change in shape, size, or orientation.

Example

(x,y) β†’ (x + a, y + b)

βœ…where a and b are constants.

2. Rotation

βœ”Definition: Turns a figure around a fixed point (called the center of rotation) by a certain angle.

βœ”Effect: Shape and size stay the same, but orientation changes.

🎱Common Rotations

90Β° counterclockwise: (x, y) β†’ (-y, x)

180Β°: (x, y) β†’ (-x,-y)

270Β° counterclockwise: (x, y) β†’ (Ρƒ, -x)

3. Reflection

βœ”οΈDefinition: Flips a figure over a line (like a mirror).

🎱Common Reflections

βœ…Over the x-axis: (x, y) β†’ (x, -y)

βœ…Over the y-axis: (x, y) β†’ (-x, y)

βœ…Over the line y = x: (x,y) (y, x)

How to Read Effectively for the Grade 12 Entrance Exam in 1 Month

1. Set Clear GoalsπŸ›‘

● Know what to read (eg. Grade 11 & 12 content).

● Focus on EUEE-relevant topics.

● Use the exam blueprint or past papers to understand what's common.

2. Use Active Reading (Not Just Looking at Notes)✏️

● Summarize in your own words.

● Ask yourself: β€œCan I explain this to someone else?”

● Use highlighters or colors to mark key points.

3. Use the β€œPomodoro” MethodπŸ’―

● Study 25–30 minutes, rest 5 minutes.

● Do 4 rounds, then take a longer 15–30 minute break.

● This prevents fatigue and boosts focus.

4. Focus on Understanding First, Memorize Later✍️

● Don’t rush to memorize formulas or definitions.

● First, understand why and how the concept works.

● Use real-life examples or visuals when possible.

5. Practice Daily πŸ“†

● Solve questions after every topic.

● Don’t just readβ€”practice past papers and mock tests.

● Learn from your mistakes, not just correct answers.

6. Teach Others or Talk AloudπŸ™Œ

● Teaching is the best way to learn.

● Explain what you just read out loud or to a friend.

● It builds confidence and highlights what you don’t know.

7. Revise RegularlyπŸ‘

● Keep a revision notebook for formulas, definitions, and diagrams.

● At the end of the day, revise what you studied.

● Weekly review: Re-read your summaries every Sunday.

8. Limit Distractions⛔️

● Study in a quiet place.

● Turn off social media

9. Use All Your SensesπŸ‘

● Read aloud, write summaries, draw diagrams.

● Listen to audio lessons or videos if you get tired of reading.

10. Take Care of Your BodyπŸ”

● Sleep at least 6 hours.

● Eat brain-friendly foods (like fruits, water, eggs). Specially water

● Take short walks or stretch during breaks.
