Transformation on the plane
β A transformation of the plane refers to a rule or function that moves or changes the position, size, or orientation of points in the coordinate plane. These transformations are often studied in geometry and linear algebra.
π There are three main types of transformations in the plane
1. Translation
β Definition: Slides every point of a figure the same distance in the same direction.
β Effect: No change in shape, size, or orientation.
Example
(x,y) β (x + a, y + b)
β
where a and b are constants.
2. Rotation
β Definition: Turns a figure around a fixed point (called the center of rotation) by a certain angle.
β Effect: Shape and size stay the same, but orientation changes.
π± Common Rotations
90Β° counterclockwise: (x, y) β (-y, x)
180Β°: (x, y) β (-x,-y)
270Β° counterclockwise: (x, y) β (Ρ, -x)
3. Reflection
βοΈ Definition: Flips a figure over a line (like a mirror).
π± Common Reflections
β
Over the x-axis: (x, y) β (x, -y)
β
Over the y-axis: (x, y) β (-x, y)
β
Over the line y = x: (x,y) (y, x)

How to Read Effectively for the Grade 12 Entrance Exam in 1 Month
1. Set Clear Goalsπ‘
β Know what to read (eg. Grade 11 & 12 content).
β Focus on EUEE-relevant topics.
β Use the exam blueprint or past papers to understand what's common.
2. Use Active Reading (Not Just Looking at Notes)βοΈ
β Summarize in your own words.
β Ask yourself: βCan I explain this to someone else?β
β Use highlighters or colors to mark key points.
3. Use the βPomodoroβ Methodπ―
β Study 25β30 minutes, rest 5 minutes.
β Do 4 rounds, then take a longer 15β30 minute break.
β This prevents fatigue and boosts focus.
4. Focus on Understanding First, Memorize LaterβοΈ
β Donβt rush to memorize formulas or definitions.
β First, understand why and how the concept works.
β Use real-life examples or visuals when possible.
5. Practice Dailyπ
β Solve questions after every topic.
β Donβt just readβpractice past papers and mock tests.
β Learn from your mistakes, not just correct answers.
6. Teach Others or Talk Aloudπ
β Teaching is the best way to learn.
β Explain what you just read out loud or to a friend.
β It builds confidence and highlights what you donβt know.
7. Revise Regularlyπ
β Keep a revision notebook for formulas, definitions, and diagrams.
β At the end of the day, revise what you studied.
β Weekly review: Re-read your summaries every Sunday.
8. Limit DistractionsβοΈ
β Study in a quiet place.
β Turn off social media
9. Use All Your Sensesπ
β Read aloud, write summaries, draw diagrams.
β Listen to audio lessons or videos if you get tired of reading.
10. Take Care of Your Bodyπ
β Sleep at least 6 hours.
β Eat brain-friendly foods (like fruits, water, eggs). Specially water
β Take short walks or stretch during breaks.
