Platinum mineral deposit in Ethiopia.
----------
Platinum deposit (Yubdo)
Platinum occurs in small amounts in the dunite core of a basic intrusive complex in the Yubdo district, western Ethiopia, and in exploitable quantities in the lateritic clays overlying the dunite and its weathering product, a hard brown rock consisting chiefly of silica and iron oxides (birbirite), and in alluvial gravels along the present and former courses of the Birbir and tributary streams.

---------
An Italian miner named Alberto Prasso received a concession to mine this deposit in 1924. Prasso established a company in Paris, Société Minière des Concessions Prasso en Abyssinie, which employed as many as 2,600 workers and extracted 700 ounces in 1926, increased the annual output to 8,050 ounces in 1932, which decreased to 6,300 ounces in 1933.

Expansion Ambitions
:

There was a feasibility / bankable feasibility study (BFS) planned to scale up to 50,000 ounces of platinum per annum. To reach that, Minerva had to raise its ownership, complete feasibility, etc.

Exploration work was ongoing: pitting, trenching, sampling, boreholes etc. to better delineate the resource.

----------
Current / Known Status

As of the late 2000s / around 2010, much of the planning (feasibility studies etc.) was still underway. Nyota Minerals (which acquired some of Minerva’s Ethiopian assets) had also begun some drilling over Yubdo license areas.

__
Today
Nyota already sold it's Tulu Kabi Gold concessions to KEFI Minerals. We know KEFI is still not started the actual mining of Gold which has been explored over 80 years.

What's the status of YUBDO platinum ? Small companies are operating in the area. But what do we know about the actual activities on the ground?

KEFI Minerals Interim Results for the Six Months Ended 30 June 2025
------------
Significant progress made in the period with the Company’s Tulu Kapi Gold Project and KEFI is on schedule to begin the full development programme in October 2025.

The final Tulu Kapi budget of US$340 million and its finance plan remain as recently announced, with project debt of US$240 million and equity risk capital planned to be issued almost entirely by KEFI subsidiaries for US$100 million.

Significant progress was made in the period and KEFI is on schedule to begin the full development program of Tulu Kapi in #October 2025. We have approved and expect to sign shortly the formal commitment of the project loan facilities. And the construction contracts have been finalised for signing upon drawdown of equity which can now be finalised amongst
the assembled local and regional investors.
Finally, the refinery project is here.

Good luck for all involved in the process.
The first Ethiopia oil refinery was built in ASSEB in 1960s
--------
The Assab Oil Refinery was constructed from 1964 and completed in October 1967, though its operation was fully organized in that year. The refinery served as a key source of refined petroleum products for Ethiopia until 1997, after which the country began to import its refined oil products.

The Assab Oil Refinery was Ethiopia's first oil refinery, built in the port city of Assab (now in Eritrea) in the late 1960s with assistance from the Soviet Union. It was shut down in 1997 for economic reasons and after the Eritrean–Ethiopian War closed trade routes, but Ethiopia continues to import refined petroleum products to meet its demand.

The Geological Institute of Ethiopia together with Addis Ababa University conducted workshop on the output the 250k GEOLOGICAL MAP HARMONIZATION exercise.

How would the result fit into the national coverage ? is there a mechanism laid to let future expansions easily harmonized ?
The harmonization exercise is going back from details (250,000) to less detail (500,000). Would have been good to retain the scale. As a scale change might lead to information loose.

KEFI Minerals - TULU KAPI Gold Mine
------
The company reports that the signing of the US$240 million Tulu Kapi Gold Project debt capital offering is now expected to take place this week. This follows a procedural matter, now resolved, that was required to be addressed by one syndicate party last week.

The overall process remains unchanged from the steps and schedule previously set out, with various construction projects already underway and advancing as part of the sequenced launch this month of the full US$340 million Project, and with Project equity capital arrangements advancing. The Company has unused working capital resources and undrawn facilities in place pending drawdown of full Project finance.

A further announcement will be made as soon as appropriate.
