Society has always been hostile to philosophers and the so-called "free thinkers" not because society is deliberately against wisdom and anti-truth, but simply because true thinking is inherently destructive; it is skeptical towards everything (including society's most cherished values). By extension, those who do serious thinking—thinkers—are usually destructive agents.

Their persecution, therefore, is not due to some noble effort of truth-seekers against the adamantly ignorant. It is much more simple, and much less noble.

It is intellectuals who undermine out sacred values and principles.
It is poets (a stand-in for the creative) who bestow upon us new values.

The reason why Succession (and Connor Roy's attempt at politics) is not considered a comedy, is that it represents the real world too much and too uncannily.
It's too absurd, which is why it's too real.
