Noblesse oblige (n.)
From French, "nobility obligates."
Refers to the unwritten obligation of noble people to act honorably and generously towards others.

One acts honorably and nobly because honor and nobility are characters of oneself; because this is what one is. Therefore, one acts honorably because of some inner principle, regardless of whether the other person deserves it or not (usually he/she doesn't).
