إنّ سعي الإنسان إلى تحقيق المعنى والقيم هو أدعى للتوتر والقلق منه للإتزان والسكينة. غير أنّ هذا التوتر هو بعينِه آيةُ الصحة النفسية ودليلها. فالصحة النفسية توترٌ لا اتزان ... توترٌ بين ما أنجزه المرء وما لا يزال عليه أنْ ينجزه ... بين ما هو كائن وما ينبغي أنْ يكون. ذلك التوتر كامنٌ في الوجود الإنساني مضفورٌ في ماهيته، وبالتالي في صلاحيته وصحته ... فليس ما يحتاجه الإنسان حقيقةً هو حالة اللاتوتر أو التوازن أو الـ homeostasis ولكنه بحاجةٍ إلى السعي والكدح في سبيل هدفٍ يستحق أنْ يعيش من أجله.
