Where the strong man is weak, where the noble man is too gentle, there the parasite builds its loathsome nest: it dwells where the great man possesses little sore places.
Which is the highest type of being and which the lowest? The parasite is the lowest type; but he who is of the highest type nourishes the most parasites.

Riding the tiger:
It's an expression used when you're in a situation where it's safer to continue than to quit, i.e. it's safer to stay on the tiger's back than to mount down.

Making bread out of thin air, and drowning people on dry land; it reminds me of this:
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic
It is vital to understand that technology is not a source of energy. That is, it is not a fuel in its own right, only a means for putting fuel to work or for transforming one energy resource into another. It can make the conversion of energy more efficient—but, as we have seen, only up to a point.
Similarly, technology can make new energy resources available—but only by expending energy to find and exploit them. So technology does not make energy out of thin air. On the contrary, technology is always ultimately dependent on the supply of energy. If the quantity or quality of energy resources dwindles, the power of technology declines along with them.
